From what I hear 3 lads on the Kildare team are sitting exams that day - what is wrong with playing it on a Saturday or Sunday

Shows CCCC have learnt little from scheduling the U20 All-Ireland semi-finals on a Wednesday night.

Was accommodating Schooling not one of the primary reasons for the (phoney baloney) changes from U18 to 17 and U21 to 20? Still seems like one of the stupidest and most counter productive things ever introduced by the GAA. And while i'm in the my 2 cents neighbourhood - removing minor championship games from before the Senior game, another mind blowingly bad change. Was there some child protection excuse attached to this IIRC?

The free staters supported changing it to u20s and u17s to suit themselves despite northern counties objecting to it. But even with the changes to accommodate the free state counties the last 3 minor championships have been won by either Derry or Tyrone with both teams in this years semi finals, and 3 of the previous 4 winners of the u20 championship before this year was Tyrone.

Donegal didn't get past the group stage in the league. Reached the Ulster semi-final losing by one point to Derry in a possession based shot shy match

Absolute shambles on the organisational front and very unfair to the teams involved.

And then playing the game opposite the biggest game of the year so far!!
But derry will be used to that, their ulster semi v Donegal was on at the same time as Kerry v Donegal. Funnily enough, commentary from that game could be heard on the stream for the minor game on tg4 - presume the tg4 crew were actually watching it whilst filming the minor game - in fairness it was as bad a game of football as I've seen in many's a year, so I can understand why anything else would have been more attractive.

What's the rush to play these off like this, the senior final isn't until the end of July, there's loads of time and less busy weekends to fit these games in.

Absolutely agree btw that the moves to u20 and particularly u17 have not been positive and the decision not to play minor before senior any more has really diminished interest and prestige of the competition. And it's not as though all Ireland final day couldn't accommodate the games, they definitely added to the occasion and helped with crowd management. I have yet to meet one person in support of these changes, which maybe illustrates how few members of Congress I know, but does highlight the disconnect here.

Yes, but a minor game before the final means another two counties looking for tickets, when there is already a problem with tickets.

They run the GAA, not random anti change bucks on GAAboard

The 2023 final had 13,754 at it, if it was before the All-Ireland Senior final that number would not have got tickets. Also, any games in double headers which are decided on the day need to be started so far ahead of the second game that it makes for a very long day if you are staying for both games. The gap between matches also means less overlap in the crowds (I have no evidence of this so don't ask for links).
At least TG4 give the teams a bit of exposure.
