Down / Re: Down Club Hurling & Football

Didnt see any football today but I seen ballyholland play the ford last week and I said on here they would take points off teams, they are extremely physical and strong around the middle! I do feel a bit for the stone and all the mourne clubs in general, I hear reports that atticall, an riocht, ballymartin have all lost a serious amount of players due to lack of work which is extremely worrying for those sides. Division 1 will be competitive this year outside of kilcoo, bridge and the champions burren. The rest are on a level playing field.

Anyone know if there are any games on tomoro in the top 2 divisions??

He looked like a division 3 player??

Is paul mc comisky not a division 3 player??  ::) ridiculous arguement....

Did his man score from play??

Another ridiculous arguement, the corner forward forward could have set up 4 or 5 scores, won easy frees and not actually scored and had a major influence on the game.

He s a decent club footballer with limited ability who dogs out of men, he does a job thats my opinion.

Was at the Kingdom, Clonduff game tonight and have to say, Jason Brown is one dirty bruit. Not just him but the Clonduff number 6 cant tackle, it was a disgrace..
C.Killen, John Clarke and Young Patrick Cole impressed for the Kingdom Tonight. Played some really tidy football at time.
Shane ward went off with a serious injury tonight, strechered off, anyone hear any reports on that!
And were is the clown of a ref Oliver Burke from, poorest of the poor tonight and its only round 1, god help us!

Jason Brown dirty???  ;D he must have changed...

Went to bryansford v ballyholland last night, shane mulhollands charges can count themselves unlucky not to come away with something in a game they fully deserved to get something out of. 6 - 5 up at half time they went to sleep at the start of the second half and that is what ultimately cost them in the end. Their a big team throughout the heart of their side ballyholland with a lot of physicality added into it. They ll take points off teams this year and with saval showing well against rostrevor it could be a very competitive div 1 this year!

On a seperate note, we v had a couple of posters complain about referees last night, I think its a very tough job and not one too many of us would be keen on doing. Think its unfair to publically criticise and name them on the forums to be honest.

No scores from Coney?

I only seen 1 of the 3 games down played against tyrone but from what I seen and what I heard about this lad are two differing opinions, I personally feel the lad is seriously over hyped, I didnt see the other 2 games so maybe Im wrong but even at schools level I remember a few years back being at Casement park to watch St Malachys playing holy trinity and all the talk was about Kyle Coney... He disappointed that day too.. Is the lad really that good?? Do tyrone posters think he ll feature for the seniors this year?

Many congratualtions to Cavan, its great to see another county having success outside of Down, Tyrone and Armagh. Well Done.

Sunday also proved gerard mc carten is a much better option than Dan mc carten but unfortunately I feel family loyalities will dictate this selection come championship.

Whereabouts does it say he s only on the county team because of who he is?? He had a great year LAST YEAR... Thats in the past, this year the form player is another Mc Carten, Gerard!! Unfortunately blood is thicker than water and when it comes to selection for the championship its only natural james will sway in favour of his brother who incidentally is well worth a place on the PANEL, not necessarily the team. Hope that clears it up for you whitegoodman  ;)

Rooney and Garvey were both good driving forward with the latter getting a fine point. They had to do that to avoid the wipeout at midfield and that is where our management called it well. Equally Mc Ardle made a significant contribution pushing forward and you're right WVM that we have some competition at the back- remember O'Hagan's performances last year too ? Mc Kernan had his hands full but was good and even though I got abuse for saying it at the start of the league, I see him as a future captain.
Dan and Star both had their moments ; not surprising that Star got the better of Dan at the edge of the square as Dan is still learning that defending lark. When they came out the field Dan was better. I think with all the hype our team has got in the last 12 months we have forgotten what a quality player he is - reads the game well, cool in possession and a fine fielder.I have to pay tribute to Kalum as well after a tough week for him; suffice to say that if we didn't have him , we wouldn't have got promotion last year, wouldn't have got to the AI final and wouldn't have had a good league this year. He is so effective in his role, rarely loses possession and often is the reason we win it. Also seems like a decent lad although Thank God my playing days are over. My early nomination for the Spirit of Breen Morgan award- he doesn't do fear.
Star did do an 'Anthony Tohill' from a 'Maurice Fitzgerald' type sideline ball from Marty to prevent a point.
BTW didn't see Murtagh on the bench. Disappointed that John Clarke didn't get a run out as I still believe he has a lot to offer and his absence may be a reason for Marty's hesitancy. Last year Ambrose, Benny,Marty and JC automatically knew where each other were, and so many of our flowing moves resulted from this quartet or Danny's runs and energy or Mc Comiskey's confidence. Mind you the re-birth of Eoin Mc Cartan gives us yet another option but it will be hard to keep all these lads fresh and hungry- big gap now will need creative and motivating energy from the management.

Dubh driocht I enjoy reading your opinions as your a very honest poster and clearly a huge follower of the county... I would have serious concerns over a couple of issues after sundays game.. Cant understand why aidan carr is not gettin any game time, a top class footballer and a lovely passer of the ball I do feel there is room for him. I was baffled at the decision to bring choc brannigan on as I was in the all ireland final, not sure of this at all!! Sunday also proved gerard mc carten is a much better option than Dan mc carten but unfortunately I feel family loyalities will dictate this selection come championship. We have improved in my opinion from last year, we r not playing sub standard opposition anymore (bar armagh) but genuine ulster and all ireland contenders. Well done roll on the end of May.

Yes Brick you are being patronising although it wouldnt be like you  ::), also think the credit you are bestowing onto Mussen is a bit ott.. Ok so the man can run a team around tullymore in newcastle and get them fit, ffs any man and his dog could do that, Murray sets the gameplan, establishes the discipline, gets the team playing the football we all enjoyed watching and takes most of the football. I think as a previous poster already said Cathal Murray deserves a lot of praise, he took 2 st louis teams to consecutive finals, what have Kilkeel done since???

Well done to all involved in todays fantastic feat! Hope to see some wearing the red and black soon ;-)

If we d have won last week I d say the interest in this game would have been much greater!! As we would have been going down there knowing a win takes you into the league final. Its an non runner now as Cork will roll Armagh over by maybe 10... Would personally like to see some of the fringe players tested, the likes of Mark Doran, Michael Magee etc.. throw 4 or 5 of them in and lets see what their made of, why not, otherwise whats the point in those lads being there if their not used>??? Sod it, heading down sat morning anyway for a few pints of stout hopefully in the sun!!  ;)
Is there many making the journey?

::)

Supersub no disgrace in getting stuffed by the tail end of the senior panel and some u21s.. Head up  ;D.. Burren beat downs first team two weeks ago by a point!! Maybe Alba could shed some light on that one if he was there??
