On most other forums if you alledge a poster isn't who they say they are, you get the bullet.

Is this true? Seems a bit harsh to ban someone for that.

I have to say, I've been accused of being another poster a few times previously, it didnt strike me as the sort of thing someone should be banned for. More so it mildly amused me.
In fact EG said himself that he was amused by the accusations of him being Myles.
I dont think him and Myles are the same person by the way, just to clarify.

In fairness, I dont think anyone should criticise the content of the programme until we have seen it.

Dublinfella, speaking of hooliganism, any chance of providing links to the newspaper stories for the so called "riot" involving Dublin fans you claimed happened last year.

There was nothing on tv or in the papers (that I saw anyway) at the time, then months later you claimed it was "all over the papers at the time" yet I cant find any links.
Maybe you can direct me to one?

I'd appreciate if you could, I've asked you to do this a few times previously but you dont seem to reply.
Its just a pretty big claim to make without any back up whatsoever.

To quote your good self "link please"

"Dissapointing" [sic], eh? Sounds like an epithet carefully chosen to make a point without yourself committing the very "offence" you're accusing me of.

Thats exactly what it was EG. I wanted to make my point without being insulting.
Surely there nothing wrong with that?  :-\

Why did you feel the need to let the world know of your "dissapointment"? Do you imagine that Lynchbhoy cannot speak for himself? Or might it be that you're attempting to goad me into an intemperate reply and get me banned?  ::)

Ok EG, calm down, I said I was dissapointed at the personal comment, and reminded you that its nice to be nice. Thats all. If I wanted to goad you into an angry reply to get you banned, I could have done a lot better than that.

Anyhow, here's the deal. If you don't like what I post, then feel free to report me to the Mods.

Just because a comment dissapoints me, doesnt mean I think its worthy of a report to the mods EG. I have no intention of reporting you for that.

Alternatively, why not adhere properly to your (former) "self-denying ordinance" not to "engage" with me?

Because I changed my mind about that, surely no great scandal. I find you too fascinating a character to simply ignore. That said, I have done my best to stay polite and avoid the nasty stuff when doing so. Which I have maintained, and will maintain, whether or not you do the same.

Quote from: Evil Genius on February 02, 2009, 05:29:58 PM
P.S. When others direct personal comments towards me, as frequently happens, don't bother to take them up on it. Oh I forgot, you don't... :o

Of course I dont, I'm hardly going to jump to the defense of somebody who had been banned more than once for posts directed at me. No more that I would expect you to defend me.

I've said it before EG, theres no need for this, all I did was to say the comment was dissapointing. Which in my opinion, it was. Whether or not you think the comment is relevant is your business, doesnt mean I dont have the right to express it on that particular thread.

I havent been insulting, nor will I. I have no intentions with feuding with you. But that does not mean I should be afraid to criticise something you say.

So just relax EG, stop making every comment I make towards you into another petty squabble. Lifes to short.
There no reason why we cant politely disagree with things on here without fighting, is there?  :-\

Not long after "Myles Na G" started posting, something stirred in whatever it is passes for a brain of yours to cause you to conclude that MNG was actually me, posting under another identity.

The bit in bold is very dissapointing, its a pity that people cant have a good old fashioned disagreement these days without somebody throwing personal insults.

I've been accused of being another poster a few times, I found it quite funny.

Lighten up a bit, remember its nice to be nice!   :)

As a matter of interest, how do most Dubs perceive Tyrone now. Do you hate them or not mind them or just prefer them to Kerry?

Difficult question to answer without starting a tit for tat thing, so I'll start with saying I already know the gripes ye have with the Dubs and their fans, no need to point them out in retaliation.
I'm just answering the question as honestly as I can.

In my opinion, most Tyrone fans are great craic, and I respect most of the players.

Ye overhype every little incident sometimes, but thats no harm.

The main problem I would have with some tyrone fans is that they tend to gloat too much in victory, bad winners if you will.
That said, its not the majority, but quite a few I've come accross all the same.
I've seem some of the players adopt this trend recently too.

And no I'm not getting into specifics, thats just my general observations.

I certainly dont hate Tyrone, not at all.

Heres to a great night tomorrow to all here attending!

Based on the line ups, I see a very one sided game with Tyrone running out winners by anything between 8 to 15 points.

But sure we live in hope.

* - You may substitute "any non-UK registered car" for where I originally posted "any Southern-registered car". And in the Republic, domestic-registered cars should only get a ticket, but all others be liable to be clamped.

Well thats more like it, and less controversial  ;)

And I actually agree with you  :-\

Talking to a very good sensible lifelong Gael who said If yer man Bastick  lasts the entire match on Stevie O Neill without incurring a yellow card, he is prepared to run bucko naked around the field during the fireworks display

Hard to argue, any time I've seen Bastick his temper has let him down.
Not a great footballer either!

Bastick case in full back for Dublin - the man who started the battle of Omagh from Full forward.

Jaysus, not again  :D

There was a survery a year or so back by newstalk and they concluded that the no1 factor (by quite a bit) which helps people who move home within Ireland to integrate into their new community was the GAA.
I couldnt help agree as when I moved the first thing I did was join the local club. Many of my neighbours (mostly from outside the area) keep to themselves, or only mix amongst themselves, but joining the club gained me many good freinds. Add the banter of being a Dub amongst "enemies" and you get some great craic both at training and in the local.

So my answer to the title question would be a simple yes.

Re the Unionists, unfortunately I dont see them wanting to join the GAA full stop.
The fact that its a 32 county organisation, and promotes the Irish language and culture is enough to repel most unionists, even before you get into the tired old argument of nationalist ideals.

I honestly think we should remain 100% as we are in that regards. All are welcome, if people want to excluded themselves for any reason they can think of, then fair enough.

We should promote our good points, which have kept us in healty standing for 125 years, rather than change things left right and centre to satisfy the whims of people who dislike the association deeply and shout about us needing change with one intention and one intention only, to damage the association.

I also think we should put this topic aside, as despite the many other challenges we have ahead of us, every time a debate about the GAA moving forward comes up, the old "appeal to unionists" line is thrown out.

Let be honest, we have kids all around the country sitting in front of playstations instead of playing. We have huge amounts of foreign nationalists with no idealistic opposition to the GAA, who simply arent involved. We should be looking in this direction as our main challenge for the future, not towards the Unionists.

The few Unionists who might possibly enclined to play should we make these changes are only a minute percentage of the future players we are currently losing to laziness and lack of integration of immigrants.

Its a wonderful wonderful organisation, despite what outsides might tell you, and I for one am proud to be part of the 125th anniversary celebrations.

Of course, it is also in the interests of everyone in NI to encourage shoppers and tourists etc from across the Border. In which case they should consider replicating something I saw in a small tourist town in North Wales recently, where parking was at a premium. Basically, there were a number of small car parks where you had to buy a ticket, but you could get the cost reimbursed against subsequent purchases in nearby shops and bars etc.  Away from the main road (i.e. where the tourists congregated), the car parks were regular "Pay and Display", and on the edge of town (i.e. too far for lazy day-trippers to walk), they were free. That way, everyone benefited - locals, businesses, Council and Visitors.

With a bit of ingenuity, there's no reason why NI towns couldn't introduce something similar as an incentive to cross-border visitors, with the sanction being that any Southern-registered car which still doesn't have a ticket gets clamped.

Sounds like a decent plan, but surely you mean ALL cars without tickets should be clamped, not just Southern registered cars?

Not very often that the bad guys wins this one.

You misrepresented me with the accusation that I played up my Catholic / nationalist background.

I dont think thats true at all, as I maintain that you DID play up your catholic / nationalist background.

Quote from: Myles Na G. on January 22, 2009, 08:48:51 PM
This was particularly poor form on your part, as you were one of the posters who asked me a direct question about my background. You also started a general discussion amongst other posters on the subject.

I just asked you to clarify if it were indeed yourself who made previous comments as I couldnt remember for sure.
How thats poor form I'll never know  ::)

And after this, in my opinion, you played up your background,so I did ask the question as to who believed you, as many had already said they didnt. But I clearly said that I did beleive you.
I suppose saying I believe you is poor form too?? ::)

As for the football boots quote, go back and read the whole sentence again. Start with the word 'if'.

I see after your personal rant about my alleged "poor form" you end with this as an explanation??
I am perfectly aware that you used the word "if" but not in the context of the GAA being "sinn fein in football boots". There was no "if" about that in your comments, and your attempts to muddy the waters just make you look like a coward who doesnt have the balls to at least admit he meant what he said or else retract the statement.
