I think that is bs. It currently exists and that's it. That will change. Not saying northern Ireland will have no bearing on that.

I've heard many  southerners refer to  the north as NI

I remember  having to correct a Mayo man once for  talking about L*****derry

I mentioned that earlier today. A lot of people in the 26 counties are totaly clueless in terms of the north.

I find the term 'ni'totally disgusting. Who uses that term in writing or in speech.

There are a lot more things in life which are totally disgusting, terming something NI either by mistake or on purpose isn't really up there on the totally disgusting self

Maybe so..in your opinion but point still stands.

Had this discussion with a friend recently. I said to him the people who use the term 'ni' will be the people you wouldn't count on in a reunification vote. Everybody to their own but he agreed.

Have to say I agree there. That term really pisses me off. Call it the temporarily occupied 6 counties or the North for short.

In your circle how many people use it? or are you pissed off at people within the media mainstream or social media using it? Getting worked up about it is a waste of energy and using it as a gauge to poll people into what they would do in the ballot box is unrealistic

Considering what is going on at present here and worldwide, it aint a biggie (in my book ;) )
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

gallsman

The struggle for a 32 county socialist republic is alive and well.

Raise an eyebrow if you really must but to allow yourself to get pissed off by it? Grow the f**k up.

There should be a flurry of applications from Republicans to march down Shankill etc at Easter.

They literally do seem that thick it has to be demonstrated in real world why the residents may be opposed.

He agreed that the over the top use of totally disgusting was over the top for using that term? Wise up, you literally have no idea whose telling you porkies with regards to who'd vote for a UI..

The vast majority of PIP users, whether the same benefit is available in a UI would take that chance and come off the gravy train, that's the cold hard facts..

Making that choice will be theirs and for their reasons only.. Hopefully we do get a border poll in my life time, and I'd love to see the way certain areas voted
And if there's a better PIP  in the south , more might vote for Unity. Even unionists.

As  for this "gravy train", I don't know about where you live , but anyone I know on  a disability  benefit  is fully in need of it.  In fact there are  probably many folk who don't claim it , that could and should have it. So it  sort of evens itself  out.

I'd love to see some sort of legal challenge (I don't know the law so I'm making this up) against the institution that is the Orange Order as a Sectarian/Anti-Catholic organisation. In the workplace it would be illegal to exclude someone on the grounds of religion, but OO can do it. There has to be some thread there - even if it's a nonsense and get it to court. The PR alone of the OO defending their right to exclude catholics will paint the picture for those outside of this place that is not in line with what gets reported on the BBC, where the OO are a pro-british protestant organisation. The real description should be anti-irish/catholic/nationalist sectarian organisation that has historically incited violence and hidden behind christianity, and who continue an ethos of superiority and dominance over their catholic neighbors, whilst expecting them to tolerate that ethos and cow down to their every whim on the basis of tradition/culture.
I agree it is tradition and culture. A culture of secterianism, a tradition of dominance.
Equality for them is a loss.

No he does not. The Gaza march did not pass through Scarva. Anyone in Scarva wanting to be offended by an anti-genocide march would have to walk across the railway line, across four fields, and peep over the hedge  before seeing it.
You have chosen to miss the point
What in the utter f**k would you know about marches or the oranger order anyway
That's the spirit

There has been a lot of commentary about this dispute bringing NI back to the 1990s.  Frankly, that's BS.  This is not bringing us back to the 90s, it's shining a light on where we are in 2026.  It hasn't gone away, you know.  If there's blame for this situtation to be apportioned, it lies at the feet of the Parades Commission and the PSNI.

*How many times is the term "Northern Ireland" used in the Good Friday Agreement?

What's the full name of that Executive and Assembly?

Googled
* The term "Northern Ireland" is used 108 times in the official text of the 1998 Belfast / Good Friday Agreement

Would you look who's straight on to this topic?

No surprise.

Everyone washed their hands of it instead of looking for some sort of solution/ resolution. Not saying this was possible but instead of investing time and effort in these communities, everyone just ignored it and hoped it would go away.

100%.

Same lads running around saying 'the province'.

Yes...the province.

If you know you know.

I'm kind of ambivalent now about "Northern Ireland".  I reserve my rants these days for the use of "Ireland" to mean the 26 counties.  (Runs for cover)...
