It started before the throw in with Morley et. al looking to rough up the Donegal FF line. They presumably went out with the mentality that they were going to lay down a marker after the boxes Murphy got away with in the league final. Donaghy's influence probably something to do with it. Clifford was at it more than I've ever seen and they were trying heavy blocks and checks all over the field. Then Burns lost the plot completely obviously.
There was a similar feel to Kerry when Armagh went down there for league game last year after Armagh had won the All Ireland and beat them in semi final. Don't believe it's a Donaghy influenced thing they would have had similar approaches to Tyrone going down there in past also after Tyrone had beat them in a big game.

Their controlled aggression wasn't too controlled. Clifford no angel though brother worse - to be that good you do have to have a bit of needle in you.

It has kind of distracted from now bad Kerry were. Cork had 14 men for a good while though their opposition wasn't as good.

QuoteYou think he's out there at training telling the players to risk red cards and suspensions? Because despite what he might say when Murphy, a very high profile player, goes over the top and rightly gets publicity, McGuinness does not control what the GAA can and will do when it comes to discipline.

I'm not denying that he has instilled grit and physicality in his two stints. It was badly needed as we were way too naive and nice on the field for years, especially in Ulster.

But this idea that Donegal are somehow more indisciplined than other teams or that McGuinness gives them license to do things that could lead to red cards and suspensions is going to need data and something a little more than a manager aggressively standing his ground in press conferences.

Murphy  may get publicity, but  he doesn't get  punished. That's the difference.

McGuinness doesn't  need to send his players out  to get up to all sorts of acts. The CCCC/referees have repeatedly failed to  punish their previous actions (Murphy in particular), so they know  what they  can get away with (in Murphy's case, clearly everything), so Donegal  act accordingly.

So we're in cahoots with the CCCC, referees and overall GAA?

There are no other high profile players who have gotten away with stuff that Murphy has?

And because Murphy has gotten off lightly at times (we'll ignore the occasions when he's been harshly sent off), then the whole Donegal squad now has license to do what the f**k they want.

All right lads, suit yourselves. Have at it. Same hysterical horseshit every year on this board.
Take your paranoia hat off. That's not what  I said.

Its not Donegal's fault. It's the failure of the CCcC and referees  by not  dishing out  appropriate punishment.

Its not outrageous to say Murphy  is the one player who has gotten away  with an unbelievable amount of stuff  this last 18 months. Even  as a Donegal man , you have to admit that.

Other players do too (Donegal, and others), but nowhere near the same  extent.  But again, that's all down to the  failures of refs and disciplinary committees

In your estimation, out of that unbelievable amount, what would the top five things be that Murphy has gotten away with over the last 18 months?

Foley along with Morley and Casey at the off ball stuff from throw in.

When  Kerry lose narrative turns to them been hard done despite their own antics. Was same when Tyrone and Dublin beat them regularly.

A. Winners play winners for a QF place.
B. Losers play losers, to get rid of 4 teams

Losers of A play winners of B for the remaining QF places.

draw is Tuesday 2nd June, as there are 4 games next weekend.

It's a mad championship structure in regards to the fact that after all the games Armagh have played this year while Tyrone have been sitting on their hands, they have to win next week just to get to the point where Tyrone now are.
That was never a square ball!!

gallsman

No different to the last few years in that regard, no?

1. The punch to  the head v Kerry
2. Closed fist  tackle v Derry
3. Taking out the  Meath player, definite black
4. Shouldering Murnin  in the back on his return, which led to the Forker incident
5. Hand trip v Armagh

A few others as well,  came  in like a bull in  Ulster final, McMullen I think it was. Just managed to  evade the tackle somehow.  He could have really hurt the lad had he  connected. Several incidents v  Mayo similar to McMullens.  And of course, everyone has to hand the ball back  now. Murphy is allowed to  throw it back.

I didn't see much of   their NFL games this year , so I'm  sure there was more in there.

The Kerry aggression was undoubtedly preplanned, it looked so corny and theatrical rather than a naturally aspirated aggression. Jack O'Connor (butter wouldn't melt on his yerra tongue) did exclaim in his post match interview with Tommy that he saw nothing of it on the pitch before or during the game, the allegedly intrepid Tommy did not follow up on that line of questioning, perhaps his investigative instincts  were mellowed out by the copious flow of yerra.
On the half time hooter the Kerry players encroached aggressively towards the Donegal players, way out of proportion to whatever had preceded. I assume Jimmy got emotional and entered the pitch because he thought the ref was not going to take any action re McHugh (with blood all over his face), and then he got involved with the wrong player (nr.9?) and pushed him away. There is little doubt Jimmy will be sanctioned.

Wildweasel74

Kerry players encroached? I saw 7/8 Donwgal players make their way towards Clifford, then the Kerry players all wayed in after that. Nothing been said about the constant play acting going on. Clifford may have got a red early on, i though it be a yellow. The one at half time was nothing.

Depression setting in after yesterdays game with a sickening thought its ordained in the stars that we will draw Kerry in Round 2B in Killarney and a summer of huge promise ends in a whimper ...... the joys of Roscommon football.

Do you think so?
Kerry will be vulnerable next time out.
To me Roscommon gave a 7/10 performance yesterday. If they were at the level they were playing at in Connacht they would have won - that's not taking anything away from Tyrone because there is more in them too.

Kerry on the other hand were all over the place discipline wise. Philly McMahon had a good article on Saturday about the potential for what ultimately unfolded and he called it right. It played right into Donegal hands. Where Kerry's at right now, they could be doing with a Kildare or Cavan.

This is the earliest Kerry have faced a knockout game in years I reckon given that they are 5 games away from winning Sam.

Can we stop with the negativity and fatalism?
Its like some followers were only waiting for a defeat so we could go back to misery.
Maybe an inheritance from the famine that we'll always be the losers?
