Good point WAG - right lock of players in intermediate/junior over the years not even given a chance. Been a fair few Trillick and Errigal lads playing for Tyrone because they start for their club

I am looking at clubs like Beragh, Gortin, Kildress who have been mainly Intermediate with stints in senior and cant think of their last representative. Alot of Junior clubs also like Brocagh, Derrytresk, etc.

Could this be a factor in the lack of support? Some clubs feel cut off and not represented.

I've mentioned this a few months back when 'support' was the topic too.

Geographically not all areas represented eg North Tyrone has zero after having 3 or 4 for years.

Not sure about other counties but serious amount of club football played in Tyrone over the weekend with U14, minor, girls, boys, senior men etc. Im not sure other counties have as big of an affinity at club level. I know personally I went to 2 of our club games over the weekend so had no time, energy etc to want to head to Healy Pk as well, especially with TV access.

is the development panel still a thing?
Be interested to see who's on it & what clubs represented...
its maybe pretty fluid hence why its not well advertised

That really was a poor performance yesterday from Tyrone. I know when you on the back foot that players will look unfit and slow but there was never really a period in that game that the Tyrone players looked to get a second wind and push on. A lot of half decent play ended in a missed pass, running into tackles. All the Cork lads had to do was run along side the Tyrone player and eventually they would drop the ball or solo into a tackle or give the ball away. Some of the lads are game and will run and try and tackle all day but them same players don't have the physical size for intercounty football and don't have the power to break a tackle or stop a player.

Primary possession is key now. Tyrone will go into games now where they know they will loose the majority of their own kickouts. Brian Kennedy can only do so much by himself. They aren't winning enough breaking ball and the short kickout is not an option any more with the new rules. Tyrone are not good enough to win games with little possession.

100% on the above

Its poor at the end of a rubbish 5 point league campaign we never even tried any of the bigger lads on the panel. For example Ruairi McHugh, and McGleenan both got no game time at all really, despite been named in many 26 man match day squads.

There was a few times yesterday when Kennedy was going up for the kickout and then was also the man scrapping for the break ball on the ground off the same kickout.

Conn turning into a showpony. Big charging runs with arms swinging into traffic. Beating nobody and hanging Kennedy out to dry imo. Would have Oguz / McDonnell in all day vs Armagh

Senior set up seemingly away to Portugal for 5 days next week in preparation for championship.

Hopefully it has the right effect going forward for the remainder of the season

Quote from: Fuzzman on March 23, 2026, 12:12:42 PMI think a lot of people get carried away with the underage success and don't realise that senior intercounty football is a very different type of game.
Watching minor or U20 games tend to be a lot more open and enjoyable to watch. Lot more scope for playing open attacking football and less focus on stopping the other team.
Look at Darragh and McCurry now and how they can be contained in big games and he's quite established at senior level now.
Lots of people think these good U20 players will just walk straight onto the senior team and continue to perform well like they did with their U20 team.

Another major point for me is compare what Jimmy McGuinness has done in Donegal. When he came back in he had a plan and gave everyone in the whole county that strong belief again. He is a great motivator and has that natural personality to lead and create a drive and hunger.
Since 2021 we seem to be in slumber mode and not that bothered if we win or lose.
They have lost the fans interest and now it seems the players arent even that bothered to fight for the jersey. As someone above said Joey Clarke seems to be one of the few with a bit of fire in his belly.

Donegal and Armagh fans turn out in their numbers cos they believe they can win Ulster and maybe the All Ireland. We dont believe we can win two games in a row.

Ttwo words key here:
Plan
Motivator
Little of that visible in Tyrone

Also
9 wides in 1st half(with wind) v Cork 7 of them 2pt attempts most right option l think but execution bad so at least 8 points lost there. DC 3, PT 1, EJ 1 (+1 45) BK 1 (easiest), DMC 1

Maybe too anxious re 2pts and could go on and get 1? but don't think so.

In new rule game now 2pt key both on the board and psychologically for effect on team spirit. Same v Meath (there giving away easy 2pt shots and failing to take own). So chances were there and also v Louth but not taken.

Aaron Boone

The lack of a plan for the arc is beating Tyrone. Good 1 pointers are scored from a metre inside the arc and bad two pointers are missed from an metre outside the arc.

Also, players are galloping forward with the ball to the arc line and then hand passing, this results in another 10 hand passes around the arc line.

It's a mind thing for the team at this stage. Not knowing what to do at the arc. Donegal prioritise 1 point scores as an example.

Quote from: tiempo on March 22, 2026, 10:25:47 PMIf Cork and Meath can fall to shite for as long as they have then Tyrone have no devine right to be at the top table any time soon, into Man Utd territory, the players aren't for changing, full factory reset needed, Peter the only man for it and thats blue sky thinking

And you talking about Canavan, is this the Roy Keane/Man Utd link.

Great player but what's he like as a manager?

From the outside looking in, since the rules changed, Kennedy and Kilpatrick haven't had either a serious challenger for their positions, or enjoyed a significant hand in the ball winning stakes.

Throw into the mix that - a bit like Down found out in 1990s - outstanding county level corner backs and corner forwards don't always make for outstanding players in other positions, even when everything says they should be.

Add into the mix an ageing star goalkeeper who should be the team's leader but who'll never quite ever get over them changing the rules on him.

Then there's something I've mentioned before and got laughed at, and I don't mind. Most of the 2021 team never thought they'd win an AI. They were getting further away from Dublin each year. When Mayo opened the door, they more than took their chance with both hands. But the old timers on the squad are playing again like they did in the late noughties; just missing a little conviction in themselves. Not quite sure in themselves when things get tough.

All this will inevitably manifest as managerial issues, and somewhat deservedly so. But sooner rather than later, Tyrone needs  clear out and whoever undertakes that job is likely on a hiding to nothing, unless there's some serious midfield firepower on ice around the county, that us outsiders know nothing about.

There's actually quite a few similarities between Tyrone now and Down late 90s. I don't believe you can fall as far or for as long as us, as you keep producing juvenile team, which Down stopped doing. But the signs are similar.

Kennedy and Kilpatrick not challenged they brought in Donaghy as backup but obviously didnt warrant moving either man elsewhere or dropping them to try Donaghy with him only featuring when Conn or Brian were injured.

I'd disagree on the ball winning front. Brian is often the go to and is crowded out because of this. Id be delighted to see McDonnell alongside him in the middle as another big target man who can fetch and break good ball. Conn is an option less than a handful of times per game and it makes us quite predictable.

As for goalkeeper at this stage i'm happy to forget about Morgan. Anymore messing about is only delaying the inevitable and putting players noses out of join who have taken the thing seriously from the start of the year. If he's worth having in the squad so be it but he cant disrupt the transition we find ourselves in with new keeper.
