Milltown Row2

Worked out a decent set of weekend results  ;D
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Cunny Funt

Comfortable win and important three points earned. Casemiro in his best scoring season before he departs, too late to keep him on for another year? Outstanding pass by Bruno on the 2nd goal and finish by Cuhna. Sesko keeps his good scoring run going.

In a good position to secure Champions league football now but still plenty of tough games to overcome yet.

Milltown Row2

No gimmies looking at those remaining games..

Sure they were nearly relegated last year and shite for most of this season so bit of a bonus territory position at the minute

Aaron Boone

Typically in football the caretaker man to get you to end of the season turns out to be a solid appointment.

This won't be enough for United this time. They want a proven European Champions League man and only Hansi Flick and Luis Enrique fit that bill of active managers. Both know that United is the place to fulfill their careers.

Gave me as good a laugh as I've had in a long time.

Such a shame to be losing Casemiro, what a player. They need 3 midfielders in the summer anyway, would be worth keeping him on for another year or so if he was used properly.

War chest inbound, Carrick massively deserves it.

A lot of talk about needing an experienced gaffer/proven world class candidate.

I can't understand how no-one has referenced the similarity between Carrick and Arteta and how giving someone a chance is just as valid as going after a name.

Major work needed across the squad and could take 3-4 years to get into the sort of position Arsenal are in, recruitment will be the biggest determining factor in outcomes, has his work cut out, another year out of Casemiro would be a good start

Exactly the sort of muddled thinking that has got them into the current situation. It was the same when ETH won the FA Cup, the club were almost afraid to sack him despite it being the best course of action. There's no doubting Casemiro has been better this season, but according to reports he's on approx £300k a week. The club have made their decision and done so early. Hopefully UCL qualification follows and with the money freed up from letting him go a decent replacement or two can be brought in. Keeping a player based on him being a fan favourite would be the wrong approach. I'm no fan of Ineos but on this one I think they've probably made the right call.

Another big issue is De Ligt's injury. When it first came out that he was going to be out for a while the general feeling was that we were talking about a few weeks. He hasn't played in 4 months now and there's no mention of a return anytime soon. If he'd stayed fit I can't imagine the club would give Maguire a new contract, but given how long De Ligt has been out the obvious response would be to retain Maguire for the foreseeable.

Look-Up!

Just the one competition clearly suits Casemiro. If they secure CL football next season with plenty of mid week games, I don't think he can be relied upon as an ever present.

The money he is on and all that. Would he sign a short term contract? He can go back to Brazil on a decent wedge like Neymar

I'd be so tempted to keep him, such a good player in the right system and a proper leader which there is a huge lack of in that club. It'll take £80m and you probably won't get the same quality of a player.

There's no denying he's a good footballer. However, by keeping him an extra year all you're doing is delaying the process of rebuilding the team.
By letting his contract expire in the summer you free up a significant amount of money for wages that can probably cover the salary of two new signings. Fair enough, there will be transfer fees involved, but this will have to happen eventually even if the club kick the can down the road and wait another year.

Need Elliot Anderson big time

Would also take a nibble at Ezri Konsa, van de Ven, Jarrod Bowen and the boul Troy Parrot

Anderson would be a good signing, but there seems to be talk of Man City and Bayern Munich also being interested so he could be a tough one to get.
I imagine they'll have another go at Baleba this summer.
Tonali would be the perfect signing but you could be looking at 100m potentially, and I could see Arsenal, City and most other top clubs being interested as well.

Defensively, another LB and allowing Shaw to be rotated is a must - his body won't hold up to playing a game every 3/4 days. You could argue Dorgu covers this position but he seems to offer a lot more further up the pitch.
Dalot/Mazraoui will get do for another year or two at right back - no doubt that there's better RB's out there but it shouldn't be the priority this summer.
I do think Maguire should get another year too, especially with the injury issues De Ligt is now having.

Your mention of Bowen is an interesting one - I do think they're a player short in attacking positions. Not necessarily a striker, but someone who can play wide if needed as well as through middle - obviously Rashford could offer this but that would seem unlikely at this stage.
I like Van de Ven, but again you imagine Spurs would be looking a substantial figure for him.

United are well stacked on the right with Mbeumbo and Amad, there would be limited backup for Cunha on the other side should he pick up an injury.  Martinez is a good left sided defender who helps play out from the back not sure would be going for VDV if Martinez is available. Maguire probably deserves another year on a lesser contract and to help develop the like of Yoro/Heaven.
