Perhaps their real level or perhaps dont have the squad to cope with inevitable injuries. Especially given the packed schedule.

If 5 get CL spots then Utd should coast to it now.

If Newcastle come out all guns blazing it could work two ways, Utd getting dicked, as they have sailed close to the wind in games of late, or gaps will appear on the counter attack and Utd winning a close game

I'll say it'll be high scoring score draw 4-4 ;D

Newcastle 2 Man Utd 3

Howe will edge  closer to the trapdoor and Carrick closer to a big contract

Armagh18

Harsh enough second yellow to be fair

Onthe40

Poor night for carrick
Man up and he brings on ugarte & zirkse
Malacia defending for the goal brutal, not a premier league quality player
Poor performance overall
Bad points dropped

Milltown Row2

Poor and lacking a cutting edge with a man up..

Chelsea and villa doing well again!

A performance that was heading towards a barely deserved draw and ended up in defeat a first under Carrick. Ramsdale with some good saves but no real periods of dominance as you should have against ten men.

Newcastle to their credit really upped their work rate with ten men and fought for every ball and caught out Man United well on the counter attack late on and it was a fine finish by Osula.

Big six pointer game against Villa next.

United haven't been overly great the last couple of games, and tonight was the same, pettering out for a draw against 10 men until yer man scored the worldie.

Carrick will earn his corn in the coming weeks.

Maguire had an eventful extra time.

A first loss since the FA cup 3rd round, it was always going to happen sooner or later.
I'd maybe question a couple of the substitutions but it would be unfair to pin that result solely on management, the players were pretty flat from the start and although there was no lack of effort as such, there was just a general lack of quality for large parts. No doubt the media and ex players will probably have the usual overreaction - win and they're great, lose and they're crap - but overall they're still in a relatively okay position albeit with tough games still to come.

Utd were dreadful last night. Havent been as good as results suggest. Takimg off casemiro and Mainoo was a poor decision by Carrick.
Some poor peeformances all over. But Mbeumo and Cunha were as poor as ive seen them. Sesko got veey little into him.
When not playing well a draw wouldve been a good result, a good manager wouldve seen that. Carrick didnt. CL qualification is still a possibility but it shouldnt mean Carrick gets the job.

That only goes one way based on performances over the past 8 weeks.

Do Villa come and attack or sit back and counter?

Do Villa come and attack or sit back and counter?

Almost certainly the latter.  Villa 11 at the moment is not capable of controlling a game, and certainly not at OT.

All bets off after losing to a ten man Newcastle last night who came into that game in the same if not worse form than Villa the last few months.
