Told there was talk of the league structure largely remaining the same

I'd say he couldn't care less about Antrim club football.

How many GAA clubs are there in north Belfast?

4 Us, Kickhams, Woletones and PP

Sorry for my ignorance but is Naomh Éanna considered a north Belfast club?

I presume them other 3 clubs are not senior.

On the way into Belfast at Glengormley (on motorway) I think there's ball catchers over to the right. I presume it GAA and council pitches?

There's also a lot of new builds over in behind that - would that be 'gaa type' people in them new developments?

Id say there's only 2 teams in North Belfast, ardoyne and Pearses. WT are green castle if I'm right and started by a boy who fell out with NE over the cheese and Moet selection in their SW clubhouse

Well thanks a lot of a balloxks
Young lad from the whitewell road got them going again after many years

We'd still consider ourselves to be a north belfast team.
Few lads left many years ago to clubs in the west seeking glory. Can't understand why a club would take them for that reason but sure didn't St Galls take in a Gort fella who was chasing the same?

So he shoulda stopped playing?

City clubs are completely different to country clubs.. I'm closer to Wolf tones than St Galls, should I just join them?

Duine Inteacht Eile

Have St Enda's a "stay put" policy for Ardoyne/Pearses people?

bannside

Gorts have possibly one of the classiest acts in Ulster atm at under 16 level. Gorts need to keep him especially after their minor success recently. Fantastic club, would love to see them kicking on.

Is that the argument you are seriously putting forward as justifying moving from one city club to another?

When the lad left Gort to play for St Galls (a neighbouring club) he didn't do it because he'd moved house or had established ties in the club.

Same as the lads who left us to go across the city in the hope that they would win

There is no argument, he left for his own reasons, there's not a club in Ireland that hasn't had players from 'other' clubs.

The same player has married into to club also now and taking teams, not just blown in and out after playing, that may stick in traditional old school of thought minds but things move on.

Quote from: HTownlad on November 23, 2025, 10:08:26 AMHe's married into the club 10+ years after leaving? Hardly an acceptable reason unless he'd a crystal ball back then
But, his reasons are his reasons and that's ok. My point of reference is there should be tighter rules around it.

Unless players in the likes of Gort get invited onto county teams they will always run the risk of losing players, be that to other teams or else from the game altogether! (Which is to BS point)
Personally I'd like it much more if transferring between clubs was made a more difficult process. Similar to transferring between counties

Of all the clubs in Belfast, Gort are perhaps the club with the deepest roots in their community and most of their players from that area.

It happens, and for whatever reasons they are, will be down to him. If a player wants to move what sort of procedures are you looking at?

The ethos should always be that kids from an area, like Turf/Ardoyne/Pearse's have when the vast majority play for that team of their district is great but not always practical

Completely different within a parish where it happens less, but still happens

So if a kid or adult chooses to leave their current club, they should be barred, we are losing players left right and centre to soccer and other sports in the city and you are looking to reduce participation more should a player wants to move?

We'd a player left us over a difference of opinions let's say, I stepped in as mediator as a senior player at the time to try and build bridges and keep the player, spoke with family also. It didn't work out, we lost two because of it. But they continued to be Gaels for another club and that's ok with me..

Rather that than loose them altogether

Quote from: HTownlad on November 23, 2025, 10:46:50 AMNo one suggested barred, just that it should be extremely difficult to do

So give me some detail on what you'd put in place to make it difficult? As I've said I thought I'd tried the best way one time and still didn't work

St brigids won 3-13 to 1-14

Cheers.

We didn't help ourselves today, thought for most parts we played well just st Brigids took their chances, they had a great first half with the wind, goals and two pointers a plenty..

Second half came back to a one point game but goal killed it..

Wat did new manager say he wanted to talk about ?

Or maybe they went to the North Antrim leagues for underage due to the fact its better run and organised.

Its maybe why Sarsfields have joined it at under 12 level this year. Na Magha & Swatragh are also in the North Antrim league at underage.

What a take on it. There is game regularity and consistency in north and south west antrim. That's why they left. I grew up in those leagues and it was a game a week at each level /code without fail and I couldn't believe when I read south antrim didn't have the same.

The amount of pulling and dragging masquerading as tackling in this game was ridiculous and no surprise it boiled over with red cards.

St galls were on track to win until then and were the better side in a tight enough game.

Not a fan either of clubs referencing dubious decisions on social media post game, either state it plainly or say nothing.

The standard of hurling is higher in NA, mostly because there is clubs just do hurling no surprise clubs wanting to progress in hurling join it.

Whenever NA run dual structures properly then everyone can climb on a high horse about it.

Endas joined SW in football at younger ages because it allows them to have on team in SA and one team in SW and try to play at high levels in both rather than a second team in lower ranks of SA.

Na Glinntí Glasa

North Antrim will never need to run dual games as South West look after the football very well themselves.

There are those who want NA to remove the U12/14 games on a Saturday to accommodate county development squads that day instead and push the games to midweek. But the clubs are content and happy to keep playing on a Saturday.

Theres 17 clubs taking part at U12 level and 12 at U14 level and it seems to run very well on its own via the clubs themselves.
