Quote from: tiempo on January 01, 2025, 07:18:14 PMThe stadium rebuild/newbuild has generational fuckup written all over it, to saddle the club with investors debt for another 2 or 3 generations

Sir Alex and his high horse fucked the club, pardon the pun

Sunday could be another watershed moment, honestly don't see how the manager can remain in post if he flunks another 5 or 6 straight
If they concede early it could get very ugly.

Quote from: thewobbler on December 31, 2024, 05:31:38 PMI know in the modern world of mental health awareness we are all supposed to feel sympathy with Zirkzee.

But really I just can't do it.

He was born with the natural talent to become a professional sportsperson, the direction and coaching to fulfil that talent, and has landed a guaranteed contract that will make him a multi-millionaire.

He could literally ride off into the sunset tomorrow and play golf every day for the rest of his life.

And the trade off from a a mental perspective? 70,000 people, most of whom wouldn't recognise him if standing beside him, saw him playing a sport badly one day.

Yes, because having loads of money makes everything OK

Look, someone like Zirkzee earns the equivalent of the national annual wage every 2.5 days, and this is guaranteed to happen to him every 2.5 days for 5 full years.

If this completely out-of-kilter reward is available to footballers, then the very least they should expect is public spotlight when they perform abjectly.

I wouldn't disagree with that.. What I disagree with is that money shields people from greeting it tight

I've asked, but seems it's been missed.. the guy gets subbed for whatever reason the manager gives, And?

Why are people losing it? And for that matter, why do supporters of other clubs actually care?

Don't give a shit about him getting subbed. It's the abuse from the crowd afterwards, as if United's problems were all down to him. He didn't go out there to perform badly.

Again, this is a very young person. All the money and fame in the world won't insulate you from the intensity and humiliation of that abuse from your own fans on such a major stage, just a few months into what is basically a major and very public promotion into a job where you're constantly under the microscope.

People need to grow the f**k up and have a bit of empathy.
Yeah god love them all....

You'll want a wee bit more compassion if it visits children, nieces, nephews etc*

* unless they're loaded, then f**K them, right

What are you on about?

Captain Scarlet

I see Scott McTominay scored for Napoli. Now he is not a league winning midfielder but can anyone honestly say he wouldn't improve the current lot.

Against Newcastle they were crying out for someone like him who could actually run.

them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

They'd be 5 or 6 places higher up the table if they hadn't sold him. Criminally underrated, shocking decision. I dare say you'd get a solid goal return out of him played as a number 9, really a huge self sabotage letting him go

Yeah. Poor decision to let him go.

Seems to be doing really well in Italy. Any players who have headed over to Italy from PL seems to have settled in well.

RedHand88

Pitch inspection at 12. Snow was really bad this morning but slowly clearing.

Dag Dog

Liverpool will be desperate for the game to go ahead. They don't want a postponement which buys time for Amorim to get his sh1t together.

Look-Up!

Pure bean counting decision that apparently needed to be done for financial leeway if you believe what you hear. Idiotic footballing decision. He was no elite player for sure but still contributed massively and was on modest money. Very very low maintenance.

Think it was a consequence of how badly the club has been run for years and a cumulation of bad transfer and contract business (both player and manager wise) finally catching up with them. A few years ago there would have been no question of needing to sell a player like that but they've spent so much over the years on write offs that they are now finally hamstrung financially. These problems behind the scenes could be a lot worse than is being reported despite the strength of the brand name.

His position was a problem for sure against Newcastle but goalscoring is a huge problem too and on this front he chipped in nicely. Not exactly prolific but neither is the squad and coupled with the likes of Rashford, however modest, also no longer contributing in that department, it's now really dangerously holding the club back.
It's ironic that the powers that be at the club may have finally hired the right manager, but he will be the first Utd manager in history that will have very little financial backing in the transfer market.

gallsman

I missed the hand wringing during the summer from the mass hordes of United fans furious at *checks notes* Scott McTominay being sold  ;D  ;D  ;D

Captain Scarlet

But isn't it the case that fans always get sold a pup. He is moved on and the presumption is that updgrades are coming in. I wasn't enraged to see him go, but I also never expected Eriksen to be around this year or Casimero for that matter.

Christ Zirkzee will go back to Italy (based on rumours) and look like a player. McTominay no big loss as was terrible with ball when pressed, right decision to move on.

Armagh18

Right decision to move him on if you're bringing in better. Eriksen and Casemiro aren't as good as him these days. Ugarte is of course, but McT still never should have went.

nrico2006

Also, there have been a lot of PL players who have shone in Italy.
'To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal, light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle.'

Cunny Funt

Would have got good money on score draw before the game with the form of both.

A draw was the least United deserved out of the game and at 2-2 both pushed for the winner and that some miss by Maguire to win it and in the end relief all round by Liverpool players, management and supporters that it flew over the bar instead of hitting the hit.

Armagh18

You'd have taken that! Now to put the same shift in every week...
