General discussion / Rubbing your Noses In It
October 10, 2008, 11:25:50 PM
Any idiot who believes that recession affects all classes, should take a trip to the K Club and witness the orgy of conspicious consumption taking place at the sale of luxury goods currently being held there. Vendors report that they were unable to keep pace with demand for Bottles of Perfume at 500,000 Euro a bottle. Ferrarias, Bentleys and Helicopters were also attracting huge interest. So when you are struggling to meet your Mortage, heat your house or put food on the Table, take comfort from the fact that its not all doom and gloom, some people are doing well, at your expense.

General discussion / We Are All Total Idiots
August 12, 2008, 09:45:10 PM
At least thats what the News Media seem to think. Georgia attacks South Ossetia, lays waste to its capital, kills at least 2000 of its citizens, men, women and children, force another 30,000 in exile , commit horrendous abuses of human rights and international law, and then when Russia intervenes to prevent genocide and restore order , our fair and impartial media describe them as the aggressor. Now our T.V screens are infested by the sight of the criminal President of Georgia bleating and appealing for international aid for his peace and freedom loving democratic nation. All the time being fawned over by the leaders of the western alliance. If it were not so tragic, it would make a Cat laugh. Perhaps that same media would explain why there no appeals for humanitarian aid to be sent to the people of South Ossetia. Or why no western journalists were sent to report from ossetia during the Georgian offensive, despite appeals from Russia for foreign reporters to cover the events. Or they might explain why the international union of journalists, raised no protest about the Russian reporters killed while covering the conflict. They might even attempt to explain why film of an alleged bombing raid over Georgia by Russian Planes transmitted by C.N.N. was in fact an attack by Georgian Planes on Ossetia, having been exposed as such by the Cameraman who filmed it. C.N.N have yet to broadcast a correction. Why do Georgia refuse to sign a non-aggression pact and are being supported in their refusal by Britian, U.S.A. and European Union. There may be a reason , if so i think we should be told, or is it just easier to ignore our concerns , lie to us if necessary, and treat us like the cretins and rabble we are. Our masters know best, how dare we question them

General discussion / Air Your Prejudices
May 16, 2008, 12:12:36 AM
In this politically correct and sterile society where opinion is carefully filtered and sifted by the thought police, to ensure that no real opinions which may be perceived to be offensive to any individuals or groups, can find expression through normal channels of debate, i think it might be useful to air your prejudices through the anonymity of this forum. Get it off your chest and help provide a real gauge of opinion. Which Nation, religion, group, society, practise or philosophy makes you feel uncomfortable or angry.Your opinion is as valid as those who wish to control it , so lets hear it

General discussion / Only In Ireland
April 24, 2008, 02:59:53 AM
Nurses and Gardai are seeking a Language allowance for working in Gaeltacht areas. A Language allowance for speaking what according to the Constitution is the first Language of the state. An allowance for employing a skill which years of education has prepared them for. Teachers who teach through the medium of Irish in the gaeltacht already receive such an allowance, while teachers in gaelscollina in the rest of the country do not. Why should someone be paid for speaking the language, when in the case of someone living in the gaeltachts it should  be the most natural  thing in the world. Is this an admission that the gaeltachts are frauds whose only Raison Detre is to draw down grants from government. There is much, much more positive and productive work too promote and advance the language, being carried out in non gaeltacht areas. Its time we put an end to this farcial, segragation of the country into gaeltacht and non-gaeltacht. Whatever relevance it once had no longer applies. If this madness persists, Bin-Men, Postmen, joiners, electricians and uncle Tom Cobbley and all will be seeking a few pound for the cupla focal. You could not make this up. A Book published a number of years ago, had the title, Are You Irish Or Normal. A question that is in urgent need of an answer now

General discussion / The same old story
January 31, 2008, 10:34:25 PM
As Cardinal O Connel former head of the Dublin diocese, seeks and obtains a court injuction to prevent the commission charged with investigating child abuse within the diocese, having sight of diocesan records, the question must be asked, What value can be placed on the promises of new openness and transparency. Which has the greater priority, the protection of children, or the protection of the institution. What is it he wishes to remain hidden. Why does the Archbishop who has succeeded him in the diocese see no reason why the documents should not be handed over and indeed was happy to do so. Will the other Bishops support Cardinal O Connell, and if so why. I think the laity are entitled to an explanation, as are the victims of abuse, not to mention the vast majority of decent hard -working priests whose lives are being made more difficult by their superiors failure to behave respons ibly and openly. What say you.

General discussion / Philistine Nation
December 27, 2007, 07:01:16 PM
Just two items from RTE news today, which each in there own way point up how we are now a society that knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.
The way has now been cleared for the construction workers to begin the demolition of part of Tara, the facilitate the construction of yet another road.
Pupils in the Kerry Gaeltacht area of Dingle, are protesting about having to learn through the medium of Irish. Its not true that their parents are protesting about having too accept Gaeltacht development grants.
As we continue our decline from nation status to corporate status, with little culture and few values left to auction, it occurs to me that we might do well if we could persuade the good old U.S.A. to assimilate us officially as one of there states, thus regulating the lives of our emigrants, bringing us cheaper prices, and allowing us to vote for a government that actually does something. Some of you might prefer to sell out to a France or some other European Nation, i would be open too that, but dont think they could afford us.

GAA Discussion / Gaa And the European union
December 20, 2007, 11:09:00 PM
Whilst browsing through the first part of the official guide the other night, the part dealing with administrative rules, it struck me that many of these rules may now be in breach of European Union laws and regulations. As an example, the requirement that all trophies,be of Irish manufacture, writing paper have Irish watermark etc. Anyone have any thoughts on this, or other examples

General discussion / 4 Letter Word
December 09, 2007, 09:36:48 PM
The word CRIB has now been deemed to be offensive and unsuitable for use in public, according to the broadcasting regulators who govern R.T.E.  Apparently Athiests and Muslims are easily offended so us christians have to keep our heads down and say nothing until given permission to speak. Great living in a liberal democracy, isnt it

GAA Discussion / Programme for Malcontents
December 06, 2007, 09:05:54 PM
I am proud to accept Farrels description of me and people like me as malcontents and backwoodsmen. It was the malcontents and backwoodsmen who created and built this association, and without whom the association could not survive. I propose that we demonstrate this in an effective manner. If the payments of grants is accepted without a proper debate and vote at congress, then we should Farrel and his ilk what a real strike is. Every unpaid Club Official, every volunteer who gives of their time in any capacity, should immediately withdraw their services. Then we will clearly see who is important in the grand scheme of things. I cant see Farrel or any of the other greedy self serving bastards rushing to fill the void. Time for the real elite to stand up and be counted, and fight for their beliefs

GAA Discussion / Coke and Croke
November 22, 2007, 10:58:15 PM
Given the recent allegations about Coca-Colas business practices, involving serious abuses of human rights in the un-developed world, should the sale of their products be banned in Croke Park and G.A.A stadia generally. Is this a case where the G.A.A. can and should make an effective stand for human dignity, or have we no ethical standards left worth fighting for.

General discussion / Imagine
November 17, 2007, 12:48:34 AM
Imagine you were too wake up one morning in a strange Country, where the dominant theme  in Magazines, TV. and films was food. A place where images of food were employed by advertisers to sell all manners of products, and where there was special clubs where people could go to view food. You would probably conclude that there was a famine in this country or there was something seriously disordered in there attitude towards food. Now replace the word food with sex and the country is Ireland. Either there is a lot of people out there not getting any, or as some of the posts on this forum would suggest, there is a serious disorder in attitudes. Which is it
