Seeing as Longford drew Tipp in the Qualifiers got me a' wondering. This is our first joust with Tipp so I think we have only 9 counties left to meet in Championship football after this match.

Leinster
none

Ulster
Fermanagh
Antrim
Armagh

Munster
Cork
Clare
Waterford (I think)

Connacht
Galway
Roscommon
London

I think that's correct. But can we find out which county has the most notches on its bedpost?

Well.

This is as bad as it can get for Longford.

A team going nowhere at best but most likely backwards against a team on the up (despite their setbacks v Dublin and Donegal).

All we can hope is that Derry would look on this as an easy one and not prepare properly and we could spring a major surprise. However, given that Derry feel they owe us one from the Qualifiers a few years back then, well, I can't even hang any hope on this.

As this game is on the same day as Horslips in Dunluce I will make it. I've never been to Celtic Park so if some of the Derry lads here have any tips on finding the ground and where to park etc. I can, of course, rely on Sat Nav etc.

There is a chance that I could be one of less than 50 supporters there  :-\

Here we go again. Our annual battle with the Bize from Wexford.

Chrisht on a bike. We need to win this one badly having suffered at the hands of the YellaBellies for the past million years.

I have heard no rumours from Longford camp. No injuries, no rows, no threats of walkouts so perhaps we can give this a good rattle.
The winner meets Dublin (or Laois) in the Leinster semi final!

For those of a mad disposition one can take in the Longford hurlers in Croke Park in the Lory Meagher Cup final versus Fermanagh at midday as well.
I intend to get both matches in.

With the help of God we'll see hurlers and footballers in Croker this year. Not too many counties, who operate at our level, would be able to boast this!!

Time for a new bus?

We all thought the Beatles making their way over that zebra crossing in August 1969 was a great laugh at the time.

Little did they realise at the time that it would spawn enough copy cats to warrant a live feed being set up showing tourists copying that famous album cover over and over and over and over with London drivers going apeshite as they stall traffic.

Anyone do this? (I know Billys Boots hates The Beatles so he can ignore the question)

GAA Discussion / The Roscommon Bus

I present to you:

€300k spent on a dedicated bus for our friends across the river for all county teams and their journeys to, eh, Sligo, Galway and the odd trip to foreign provinces.

I mean WTF!

What will happen it when it's idle from June to December each year?
Who will drive it and what happens him when it's in the hayshed.

Am I missing something here?
Have the Rossies gone mad?

Is this a good way to spend €300k - even if there is sponsorship in the mix.

Here we go again boys and girls.

Time to get optimistic again for a wee while.

Longford go into this short of confidence - but still probably more confidence than our Offaly friends. Longford  had a work out agin Westmeath at the official re-dedication of the Mostrim grounds yesterday. I think Westmeath won by 2 points at the end (1-12 to 1-10).

Surely home advantage will be the telling point here for Longford? Winner faces Wexford.
Would not expect either or the pick of either side to trouble any serious contenders but we have to live in hope.

Would also not expect to see anyone from Sky TV there to weigh up camera points for future games.

It's great, isn't it?

RTE blowing the budget again on something being described as "historic" but really it's all a load of nonsense.

Breaking news now........

Watching Bono make a clown of himself last week in The Convention Centre, as well as the news that the new album has been put on ice, I hafta ask the question.

Is it time for U2 to pack their bags and retire?

See this blog which sums it up better than I ever could:

http://ourmaninstockholm.com/2014/03/08/the-unforgettable-ire/

I mean they haven't meant anything to me for 20 years. But that's personal. Some would say McGuinness jumped ship when he saw a Beatle like mess looming as Larry becomes more and more frustrated with the antics of Bono. He could walk off the pitch with the ball any day now.

The rich and famous lifestyle has resulted in the last two albums (if I am being generous) being phoned in. Still pull off a good show playing the oldies but big swinging!

While I can see that perhaps some of the "pay your tax ye shower of cnuts" ire being directed at them may be over-simplified it's all about public perception and if you are constantly explaining you are constantly losing.

Also The Edge's beanie is ridiculous at this stage. Be proud of being bald. Most of us share his pain to some degree or other.

So - in summary. Time for U2 to fold up the tent and for Bono to stop annoying us?
I say yes.

(Sits back and waits for the abuse)

Any of ye boys and girls going to this?

I'll be there joining in. They hope to get 50,000 punters. Can't see it myself but a World Record should be broken.

I see it's been confirmed (after lots of rumour) that JD Weatherspoons are coming to Blackrock. Shur, this just down the road from where I live

http://businessetc.thejournal.ie/jd-wetherspoon-dublin-1192320-Nov2013/

Shall we roll out the welcome mats or should we run them out of the place?

Coming on top of the news that GAA is being played in Blackrock College and our beloved Superquinn in becoming SuperValu should I just pack the bags and move back to Longford?

 8) to infinity

My favourite tournament of the year.

Longford have been drawn in Group B of the 2014 O'Byrne Cup, alongside Kildare, Carlow and Athlone IT. The first game takes place on January 5th.

I will endeavour to have all the groupings here as soon as possible.

General discussion / Radio controlled watches
October 13, 2013, 03:21:39 PM
Men and women of knowledge.

I am a horrid fussy yoke and I hate watches that lose time - even if it's a second per month.

I want a watch that will be accurate all day, every day.

Now I know there are watches out there that sync to a radio signal once a day and makes the adjustment. However for this part of the world the nearest signal is in GB.

My question is are these sort of watches generally useless on the island of Ireland if we are too far away from a radio signal it can pick up or is it a powerful transmission on AM or LW or summat?

General discussion / Magic House in Dublin 4
September 26, 2013, 09:22:30 AM
Wow.

I see disgraced property developer/ex-IRA man Tom McFeely's house on Ailesbury Road is the house that just keeps on giving.

On top of the €140k found in bundled €50 notes last week under the bath another €60k has been found in the same part of the house.

Poor auld Tom must have forgotten about the €200k cash lying around before he vacated. I mean it could happen to any of us.

I hope they checked down the sides and back of the couch - there could be a further stash there.

Oh fountains of wisdom.

I may have to head to Portree in the Isle of Skye to do some business in the next week or two.

How the hell can I get in and out of there as soon as possible from Dublin?

Nearest airport seems to be Inverness and then a 100 or so mile journey
Ferry to Cairnryan or Stranraer and then an epic 6 hour car

Any ideas?

We are off to Paris at the end of October for 3 days and looking at staying in a self catering apartment perhaps as opposed to a hotel.

Four of us - meself and Mrs Shore and two junior Shore girls aged 12 and 10.

Anyone know of a nice reasonably priced apartment in a good area of Paris that would suit us. Near Metro, away from seedy areas, near a nice Boulanger to buy the morning pain etc.

Thanks in advance.

General discussion / Sinead O'Connor
September 10, 2013, 12:10:12 PM
Sinead O'Connor has had the initials 'B' and 'Q' permanently tattooed on her face in red ink.

The singer had the letters etched on each of her cheeks as a reminder to a man who upset her.

She told the Irish Sun: "It was suitably painful. It is a B and a Q... the initials of the last man who is ever going to s*** all over me."

When asked if she wanted a permanent reminder of the unknown person who had annoyed her, she replied: "I want him to be reminded."

O'Connor added: "Got it done at Zulu Tattoos in Dublin about two weeks ago. I don't believe in explaining tattoos so even he doesn't know what it means.

"It's dangerous to be considered 'pretty'. I feel safer having 'un-prettied' my face... and he doesn't get to forget.

"So I'm double happy — we musicians do things differently."

The Nothing Compares 2 U star has had a number of tattoos inked in recent years – including a large image of Jesus Christ and a heart symbol on her chest.

No rule 1 of the DIY chain on her mush but I am sure they will surface.

For the record I'd day she's a 42 on the mental scale.
