GAA Discussion / Longford - O'Byrne Cup Champions 2021
« on: December 19, 2020, 07:53:51 AM »
Ok - I am reaching here.

As we are the current holders and I am pretty sure there is no competition in 2021 I hereby annex the title for 2021.

Our first time to defend this noble trophy.

Happy Christmas bitches.

Eddie Brennan has resigned as Laois manager.

His position was untenable after Parkinson's crew's hatchet job.

I know Mickey is a man of faith but he has his work cut out here.

Maybe St. Jude could come into the backroom team.

Have not been not here for a while. I enjoyed the Longford v Laois game or what I have  seen of it. But how Longford lost I am still trying to work out. I think if Mickey Quinn was there he would have steadied the ship. Twice Longford were in one on one with the keeper and the keeper saved I suppose to have to give him credit. With Cork and Down gone up Division 3 might not be so tough next year.

Ara we all feel the same but dems the breaks! Laois had midfield that won ball (I think Gallagher was carrying an injury) but they way our goalkeeper kicked out the ball didn't help. Quinn of course could have made the difference........

That said, more than one sympathised with Laois coming off the can Laois manage the Blue wave?
Keeping it to single digit points defeat will be an achievement.

But good luck to them.

TBH I had forgotten Wolly was even still broadcasting. Never had much time for him.

Once an interviewee says off the record then that's it. Eddie Brennan is not a lad I'd like to cross.

Hope Wolly's tyre thread is within the regulations. That is if he can drive!

Yes - I can see it having its merits and I was a big fan of the Qualifiers. I do think they have passed their sell by date at this stage.

The first half in the game v Louth yesterday was even
The second half was even worse.

This was a grim affair with only one or two bright spots.

Onwards and upwards now. Facing Laois will be tough. Winners play Westmeath so a Leinster final is not beyond us.

From  :   Cork manager hits out at Longford for 'appalling' decision that creates 'dangerous precedent'

What was the reason for Longford giving Cork a walkover ?
It seems very strange that it was sanctioned by the GAA.

The game would have cost 12-15k to stage. Cork were sending up the juniors. Longford were fielding a dummy side as well.
What was the point in these Covid times putting us through the misery?

Good win for the WT hurlers in awful conditions.

Slashers were poor in the second half. Losing a lad early on didn't help. Their second red was flagged as soon as the chap came on. He had a yellow after 15 seconds and was like the gunslinger in the old West - you could seem him itching for a row.

Semis in the football, perhaps the rest of the Championship, are in doubt I would imagine.

What a mess.............and the JMC wing on the County Board will point and say "I feckin told yiz so"

Killoe getting all the blame, as far as I can see. For extra FFS-idness one of the players in the frame seems to be a Covid-19 denier on twitter. Ya couldn't make it up.

On the good news from Eggistown/Ballinalee bate Slashers in the minor final.

God only knows when we'll face Mullinyarta in the final........could be next year.

The foot shooting capacity knows no bounds.

Hurling final can wait until a suitable Sunday in October surely to Jazes.

7/2 Killoe looks tasty enough for a nibble.........

Longford / Re: Longford Football (& Hurling) Thread
« on: September 12, 2020, 09:36:05 AM » did seem that Killoe knew that a Clonguish clubman was head of the Longford Hearings Committee that had banned them for 48 weeks.

Maybe that was coinkydink.

Maybe Killoe felt sorry still for beating us in a county final in 198? when we were hot favourites.
They even must have forgiven us for staylin Christy and Wilsheen Kennedy in the late 70s and they more Killoe than......I dunno.....a 100% Killoe thing.

I think it was simply an alignment of these factors above. Or perhaps 100% uimhir a h-aon.
