Would you believe that I showed that very clip to the wife last night. (and I hadn't seen that picture)  She hadn't seen it before. It's always been one of my all time favourite clips of comedy. It must have taken some rehearsing.

I was listening to an audio book, a compilation of articles on baseball from Sports Illustrated going back years, and there was an interesting one about Opening Day, and they wrote about the Abbot and Costello sketch. Apparently they performed it thousands of times, and it changed constantly. It had a lot of what A&C called 'regular' or something, basically ad libbing, so the rehearsing was probably in the performing

By the way, the answer is the Right Fielder. There's no right fielder named.
