Most in the north considered this a settled issue. Reminder to always get these things in writing and that should be the goal.

Abolish parades commission while we are at it.

Not only that the fact that there is a perfect alternative that is roughly the same length and wouldn't annoy anyone. So why not take that and have as many Orangemen parading with as many banners and bands as they want. The fact they would rather not do that and have a proper parade and would prefer to give up all their trappings just so they can walk down the Garvaghy road and annoy some taigs tells you all you need to know
In a nutshell.

Well done to the people of the Garvaghy road and all from across the country who stood with them

Agreed.

The OO needs to be seen for what it is, a sectarian organisation steeped in bigotry, with a history of inciting violence and exerting pressure on police and politicians to get their own way. In my opinion, the OO are one of the main contributing factors to how bad things got here. Many of their members involved in paramilitaries, policing and/or collusion.

It's starting to feel like the days of the tail wagging the dog from an OO perspective are coming to an end though - in times gone by, they would have got their way and the residents would have been dragged off the street.

There are still loads of places with contentious parades, but they are tolerated. One of the main OO locations for the last saturday was where I live. The entire place closed for a day - traffic kept out of the town, shops doing no business, drunk bands doing drunk things all around the place. That was just the icing on the cake for the numerous other days over the year where the place was closed off for a number of hours to facilitate more marching. The town is mostly nationalist and these parades are just territory marking imo. Flags flying all year around.

I'd love to see a new approach to all of these parades now and a scaling back of them in general to be held only in loyalist enclaves. The rest of us shouldn't have to tolerate this sectarian organisation. It won't happen though as there isnt the political will to take that fight on.

Its clear for all to see, this whole episode was a gamble by Bryson/Lockhart (who I think are just the mouthpieces for some hardline loyalist paramilitaries) to take down stormont. They would have hoped for police to clear the road, and trigger nationalist violence across NI OR for the loyalist violence to kick off if denied their right. Instead what they got was stalemate and a message that no-one wants that. Last kick from a dying dog maybe. Hopefully.

Hopefully so Tbrick. Was similar in Newry there over the summer, whole town closed off for a bunch of twats that no one wants about the place. Am waiting on some of Seamie/Carlas wee mates to whip up trouble yet though.

The OO and sectarian element of the PUL community have been reduced to territorial pissings, a massive climb down from the 'good old days'

Given a chance they'd go full Zionist on the 6co's, there's a special place in hell for that mentality

Garvaghy Road is an outlier and almost all in the six counties thought the parades commission messed up and give in because they had messed up with the meeting protocol
Wouldn't cause an issue with the others because nationalists should be seen as tolerant , it's not these guys we need to persuade as regards a UI it's the normal working tax paying unionist who isn't in the OO

"Former Mid-Ulster DUP MP William McCrea suggested Libya-type air strikes against areas such as Carrickmore and Crossmaglen, according to a report within a file declassified today at the Public Record Office in Belfast"

Absolutely- but there's loyalists online whipped up by Bryson and co saying that they're done applying for parades and will just march where they like in future. But will hopefully be a small loud minority of idiots.

I was weary of how the PSNI would approach this the last few weeks and as much as it's still 70% protestant they don't have the wherewithal to beat the Nationalist counter demonstration off the streets even if they wanted to.

That should play on the OO thinking when they do want to parade in Nationalist areas like Bellaghy, Ballycastle, Newry etc, let alone Derry City, Ormeau Road, Ardoyne.

But they never learn or chose not to as they still seek their triumphalism fix and engage in these culture wars.

IMO the Belfast Fleadh was a major awakening to a lot of people that Irish culture is here, it's strong and getting stronger.
This was the first real manifestation of that right in the PUL faces and they're struggling to counteract it or respond to it in kind, and marching is all they have to offer.

and so it begins, there's a request from "Belfast Walkers Club" to parade from Ballynafeigh Orange hall, via the lower Ormeau Road to the Donegal Pass on the 7th of November.

So much for Ballynafeigh OO creating closer ties with Bredagh GAC. Must be too much green on the upper Ormeau these days.

I just can't see the long term plan here for the OO. It's not the same place it was 30 years ago. They are not going to get everything their way anymore. Surely they can see that. Long term this might cause even more heat on them and actually result in some more parades being rejected.
If this is the plan then SF need to start taking action. The PC has shown itself as being not fit for purpose.

Bryson admitted this yesterday. Applying on all those contentious old routes. He just wants the fame.
