Quote from: Orior on October 01, 2026, 05:59:48 PMHas the CC said yet how the PSNI got the parade difficultly assessment so wrong?

That seems to be the key to the whole thing. Who in the PSNI made the bogus assessment that there'd be no trouble if the parade proceeded? If the Chief Constable signed off on that then he needs to go.

I can't understand why SF are not focusing more on this. This it the key area. Whoever made that decision should be pulled over the coals.

I'm not convinced they did get it wrong.

Humphries judgement set out the following.

The determination states that the police did carry out an assessment but no
specific information in relation to disorder was identified. That is not the same as saying there was no risk of disorder. In fact, the court was told that ACC Henderson did refer to various risks which had been considered by the police. A range of potential scenarios from an entirely peaceful passing off to violent disorder and all those potential scenarios had been mapped out by police and the appropriate responses were being considered.

[25] There was clearly detailed engagement by the Commission with senior police officers over a period of time at which intelligence assessments were considered and the PSNI's planning was explained to the Commissioners. The only proper conclusion to draw from those paragraphs of the determination when read together, is that public
disorder did feature in the consideration of the Commission in accordance with section 8 of the 1998 Act and the relevant guidance

So it seems the PSNI probably did provide the correct information as they understood it at the time.

It's been a costly call for the PSNI and their budget!
That's just, like your opinion man.

It had been on the cards for months, if not years. He's not the worst fella but has always appeared out of his depth as an MLA.

If every party applied that criteria there would be some clear out in Stormont, similar criteria could be applied to the MPs in this country.

I listened to the redlines podcast  this morning. Sam McBride who is normally good seems pretty clueless over this whole Drumcree affair. Firstly he thinks the SDLP have made a massive mistake by joining the protest on the Garvaghy road and reckons they will be squeezed at the next election as there is no difference to SF on their approach to the crisis. I'm sorry this is bollocks. If the SDLP didn't join the protest when SF, aontu and pbp were all there then they would get hammered at the polls. Every single nationalist I know is very angry about the whole affair and to take any laid back approach would have seriously backfired.
Secondly he says a big difference in unionism to nationalism over this is that Jon Burrows is offering something different and separating itself from the DUP, as jon Burrows is talking about mediation and an off ramp and possible one last parade and then done etc. Again this is us utter bollocks. Go back to the start of all this and you will see Jon Burrows wanted the parade to go ahead as much as any other unionist ,quoting traditional route etc etc not once did he say no let's wait and talk to the residents to find a solution. It's only now he is rolling back after the inevitable and oh so predictable shit storm that he with his fellow unionists pushed for

Have to be honest I think Sam McBride is the most one sided journalist you will find and backs the Union to the hilt.
I can swim a little but i can't fly an inch

It's a fairly telling thing that SF and SDLP can point to the many other other marches that they do not oppose - this is the only one.

Yep. Time to start opposing a few more I think.

The sdlp have been bang on joining this protest. I think it would have been a faux pas not to but I don't think it's a political stunt. It's quite telling very few of them protest against other marches. This one is toxic and dangerous.

Patently and demonstrably untrue. Look at his former boss Lowry, for one.

While not as bad as Bin Lorry I do believe he has hardened over this particular issue and the overall editorial position of the Bel Tel is not great.

Would have been political suicide not to join it for any party looking for votes off people of any shade of green.

I hope people remember Alliance and their general uselessness on this.

I stand corrected sir...It was Lowry I was thinking off when typing that.

I don't disagree but the man is a unionist, it's hardly unexpected. People generally tend to be one or other like.

It's not like he turns a blind eye to unionist wrongdoing or anything. Literally wrote a/the book on RHI and was all over NAMA too.

Ah, that makes more sense in fairness.

As of a few weeks ago, Lowry is not only just his former boss, but a former journalist as well! (at least for now)
