Quote from: Pub Bore on September 29, 2026, 12:30:00 PMThere has been a lot of commentary about this dispute bringing NI back to the 1990s.  Frankly, that's BS.  This is not bringing us back to the 90s, it's shining a light on where we are in 2026.  It hasn't gone away, you know.  If there's blame for this situtation to be apportioned, it lies at the feet of the Parades Commission and the PSNI.

Everyone washed their hands of it instead of looking for some sort of solution/ resolution. Not saying this was possible but instead of investing time and effort in these communities, everyone just ignored it and hoped it would go away.

I disagree NAG.

It was sorted. The people of Garvaghy Rd were left in peace and quiet.
This is on Bryson and Lockhart. It's a deflection tactic from Donaldson. Simple as.

I'm seeing a lot of this 'two sides' are equally to blame waffle. Pure waffle. This narrative is coming from a few uneducated people in the south. Just look at the statement from MM. Laughable. Then I listened to Helen Mc Entee today. OMG. There's great people from the south who have supported the residents. A lot have come up and supported the residents.

I'm not trying to two side this, but the fact that it wasn't completely written off has allowed Bryson and his wider motives to get hold of an issue and use it to hold a community to ransom.

It was a settled issue in the minds of normal right thinking people, but you have to remember that's not what you are dealing with when it comes to Lockhart, Bryson et al

QuoteThat excuse for a Fianna Fáil member meehole Martin.... Just saw him on tv talking about the people of Northern Ireland! FF really are the blue shirts now! Sick

I find the term 'ni'totally disgusting. Who uses that term in writing or in speech.

*How many times is the term "Northern Ireland" used in the Good Friday Agreement?

What's the full name of that Executive and Assembly?

Googled
* The term "Northern Ireland" is used 108 times in the official text of the 1998 Belfast / Good Friday Agreement

Would you look who's straight on to this topic?

No surprise.

Ah boohoo I'm right as usual ;)
Meanwhile SF supporter wants to deflect from facts -
Michelle is "First Minister of Northern Ireland"
Nearly 30 SF people are members of the "Northern Ireland Assembly"
Some are Ministers if the "Northern Ireland Exectlutive"
SF negotiated and supports the GFA which says "Northern Ireland" 108 times.

But  An Taoiseach can't use the term🙄

The resident partionist loves the term, shock horror..

nrico2006

Never realised there was such an issue with saying Northern Ireland - out of curiosity, what do you rebels put down as your address when filling in forms or what country do you stick on the address when sending a letter to someone in NI?
'To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal, light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle.'

Back on topic, is there any way the parades commission wise up, say we made a mistake a revoke the permission for the march?

Rossfan

Probably needs someone to go to Court, try to get a ruling that the approved parade is now extinct as it didn't take place?

What has any of that got to do with anything? So it's the legal name. Does that mean nationalists should be comfortable with it? Do you insist on calling Derry by it's legal name 'Londonderry', since you're a stickler for that sort of thing?

I don't see any posts saying he "can't use the term" (back to the straw men again? You really can't help yourself, can you!!) It's clearly more a case that to some, his insistence on using a term that nationalists generally avoid using, is just typically disappointing choice from Micheal Martin. He's quite clearly free to call it whatever he wants, but nationalists from the six counties are also quite free to see that as him 'othering' them as usual. From my point of view, when I heard him say it, my reaction was nothing more than an fleeting eye roll. On the scale of things Micheal Martin has said to alienate northern nationalists, it's far from the worst.

"Right thinking people'

Unfortunately it's not just Bryson and Lockhart. It's the the whole of political unionism. You can chuck in the inept parades commission, PSNI, secretary of state and the judicial system and a big section of the media who all seem to think the parade itself isn't the problem FFS. The now manufactured issue is why are all the NAT politicians not getting visits from the police instead of asking why the f**k was the idea of the parade entertained in the first place!

Alison Morris , Irish News, said that the original application was approved on the  PSNI advice  that there was no evidence for trouble/protest/unrest (or whatever the term). Now that  there clearly is evidence of protest/potential unrest etc , then a new application is needed.

The PSNI had a major  part in this. Saying there was no evidence of potential opposition to the march (did they consult the  Garvaghy Road residents about their opinion?) , then  bring in 200  police  officers from Scotland.
