Kids in Australia enter a draft, as far as I know their clubs wouldn't receive a penny so I doubt any clubs in Ireland will be seeing anything. 

To an AFL club, they are spending time and a salary on a player, so they are taking a risk on exporting untested Irish players.  I doubt they are going to pay any compensation on top of that. 

I would love to know the stats on players that make the move, and the % of those that manage to play even 10 games at AFL level.  It would be quite small I would imagine.

AGL under no obligation to pay anyone or club/county in the Gaa anything.
Kerry can do fk all about it.
Amateur players no contracts etc.
Best you could hope for is the GAA to get the AFL to make a voluntary payment to club/Co Board.

As Ethan mentions what percentage of players are we talking about?....say there are 900 under 20 County panellists and 1,000 Senior ones.
Would 10 to 15 move per year, half of them back in 2 years?

Blood sweat and tears into developing said athlete. Theses multi million pound corporations should be paying their way!

They don't need the optics.

Imagine a young player gets an AFL contract but their club demand more money? They still go and the AFL close their wallets.

If a professional soccer or rugby player decide they are trying Aussie rules they are off. And there is a contract there. Any thoughts that the GAA are entitled to, or will get, money for a player is the thinking of the bewildered.

Tomás Ó Sé has described the recent exodus of Gaelic football talent to Aussie Rules as "sickening" and claimed that, in the case of his own county, it is "costing Kerry All-Irelands".

Ó Sé steered Kerry to All-Ireland U-20 success this year but his midfield partnership, Daniel Kirby and Evan Boyle, are two of the game's rising stars linked with potential moves Down Under. Both players are understood to have taken part in a recent combine, or trial, staged by AFL side Richmond in Athlone.

There is a simple middle ground here.

Change the rules. If you touch an AFL ball, even by accident,you are expelled from the GAA. No trying your luck and coming back.

So to the 'something must be done' brigade, if not, why not?
