Does pro soccer ever pick up U20s? If you havent made it by then you are unlikely to surely. Can think of maybe one or two lads away to England from county minors. Think Tyrone lost one last year? No issue with lads going to AFL but whatever about county boards their clubs need compensated. Wouldnt expect crazy money but sure 50-100k is reasonable.

Blood sweat and tears into developing said athlete. Theses multi million pound corporations should be paying their way!

What about the coaches in schools, or the coaches at the soccer, rugby, golf, tennis and whatever other sport one of these kids might happen to play. Should they be compensated financially?

I'm not interested in other clubs or sports. If you are an elite u20 county player then it is by far and away your preferred sport in the vast majority of cases. Of course some might play soccer and errrr tennis.

Therefore that club (yes through volunteers) have invested heavily on the premise of one day producing senior club footballers and perhaps county footballers.

To lose that hugh investment clubs need financially compensated. In a world where we dont have a transfer market helping pay the clubs bills would go some way towards an act of fairness IMO.

If a club needs more to be fulfilled than pride and happiness from watching one of their own progress into highest level sport, then their concept on the Association is inside out.

Players leave clubs and walk away from the sport every single year. This does not place a financial burden on the club.

Expecting or, worse, believing there's an entitlement to financial compensation is completely daft.

What about the schools? You conveniently ignored that bit when saying other sports didn't concern you (which is daft in its own right). Up your neck of the woods, the schools have an enormous impact on the development of the best young players.

Any given club will invest the same amount into their star player as they will their average players from childhood through to adult grades, so in theory any player that drops out at 18, for whatever reason, is a loss in investment. 

The fact that 1 player has been deemed good enough to go play high level sport in another country is irrelevant to that loss.  That loss is the same to me as a guy who quits at 18, because he is fond of the weekend too much.

I think Walter has some valid points tbh, surely a 10/20/30k token payment wouldn't be too much to ask for from a professional club
