Want to see D Jones given a proper chance at 7, another who I think is oven ready

Would agree with this. We have fastracked a lot of the u20s in the past few years with few of them making a limited impact. It takes a while to physically get up to the level required for senior intercounty. Think we might be better focusing on those that bit more physically developed at this point.

Conroy and Jones are probably better served to make an impact this year than those just out of u20. Maybe Jordan could offer something also but there is a lot of competition there.

Quote from: Hand of God on January 01, 2026, 06:52:39 PMThe Irish News have 10 names listed as new additions from last years panel. Conor O'Neill is one but pretty sure he had been added at back end of last year.

5 from last years u20 panel:

Ben Hughes
Conor O'Neill
Callum Daly
Ruairi McCullagh
Joey Clarke

Michael Conroy
Oisin McCann
Mattie Og McGleenan
Ethan Jordan
Oisin Gormley

Hopefully that's not the full list. Both O'Neill and McCullagh are still u20 this season and it will probably take the younger guys longer to get up to speed. Thought there would be more players in the early 20s to mid 20s looked at who are probably more ready at the minute.

It might not be an exhaustive list of new additions this year. Would have like Dalaigh Jones and Conor Cush to get looked at again this year.

What's the thoughts on the older 5? Like the look of them all at times.

Conroy is left footed and has a big more physical presence than McCurry so would expect him to put serious pressure on him this year. Great 2 pointer option as well. Gormley is a player like too. Very direct, can score and has a bit more physicality than some of our attacking options. Jordan again is a good 2 point threat and has scored heavily for Eglish. Wouldn't really expect McGleenan to make too much of an impact. McCann could be a decent option out the middle but probably needs to put a bit more beef on him right now.

Team to start vs Armagh. Like McCaughey in there. Would have had him in the squad 2 or 3 years earlier but better late than never.

Noel Donnelly I'd say, mind him getting an Irish news all star back in '97

Good few fresh faces there. Very happy with that full forward line in particular. Bit more size in there and gives us the option to let the ball in earlier.

Glad to see Nathan McCarron still about the panel too as he adds a bit of physicality to that full back line. Been around the panel last no of years and hasn't been afforded many chances.

Is Dalaigh Jones definitely involved at the minute?

Good blend of new and experienced players in named team. Big thing to look for is better forward play. This will be the key to success or failure going forward. Armagh strong team named so should be an interesting opener.

Tyrone poor enough so far given the amount of ball they have had.

Doing very well on kickouts. Oguz, O'Neill, Gormley and McGarrity won plenty of ball.

We are just too slow letting it in. The goal game from a good spot by Oguz playing the ball in and there's just been too little of it.

Think Ruairi Canavan is looking sharp and I think that deeper role suits him at intercounty level.

O'Kane looks dicey under a high ball. Shades of the county final earlier.

tyroneman

Kicking for points has been dreadful so far on our side, so many dropping short

thebigfullforward

Not a bad result when you look at the players both teams had out. Think 14 of them Armagh players that started had played county before. How many of our starting 15 played county before? 11 or 12 maybe?

Hand of God

Good run out. Mattie had a great game. MOTM for me.

Thought Niall Devlin was superb when introduced, won so many turnovers and really seems to have got up to the top level conditioning required so credit to him on that.

Oguz had a good game and did a lot of good things but still prone to erratic moments. Ben Cullen did very well also and I thought Ruairi Canavan performed well. McGarrity showed glimpses too.

Was it Cassidy who chipped ball up on the run through a load of bodies for the second goal? Couldn't make out who it was but felt it was a brilliant piece of skill for it.

As much as you can read into a McKenna cup match on the 2nd January, it was a decent win. Finished strongly. Agreed on above, Niall Devlin was very good when he came on - it looks like having a good year last year has given him huge confidence. Having the likes of Mattie and McCurry up front to close the game out was probably the difference.
