Smokin Joe

Quote from: Truthsayer on December 22, 2025, 09:45:08 PMDeath of a Showjumper is some 3 part documentary. Very local Caledon, Co Tyrone. True recent events. Awful stuff, though worth a watch. Some dysfunction there.

Where / how can this be watched?

It was on Sky a few months ago. Should be on catch-up.

Good show. James Brannigan a good lad and decent footballer.
Not to spoil it but only for him and that journalist Tanya Fowles...

Stranger things finale. No spoilers here. I thought it grand. A bit of fun. 2 hours was maybe 20 mins too long IMO.

Ive seen loads on spouting complaints already. People get too much into these things... talking about lore etc fs. Maybe the time between series has caused a lot of this.

Is there ever a general census of contentment with a big series ending? Seems not

Yes. Showed the depressing cycle of "shit rolling downhill"

Finished The Americans yesterday, pretty satisfying ending to be honest.

Continuing on with the French shows I'm
watching. I've started one called Spiral and it's very good so far. 8 seasons so plenty of watching to do.

I think that doll from Newry is going to grate on me too - she seems to think she's something else. I actually used the word "dose" earlier!

If you see her coming in for an interview you'd be putting a big x through the page!

Think she'll do well enough, but they eventually lose control of themselves and get caught
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

As mentioned by others, The Wire's full-circle ending was excellent and the Americans gave us a complete and satisfactory conclusion.

Others worth mentioning:

Six Feet Under, the final episode was better than everything before they delivered previously.

Friday Night Lights, finished in a sweet and grounded way.

The West Wing handed over to the next cycle with real poise, though to be fair it always had a more natural conclusion than other series.

The Office (UK). Not quite the anthology of those mentioned above, but its final episode delivered fairytale endings with edgy humour.

I enjoyed it. If anything, the climactic battle was a bit anti-climactic, but overall I think it closed things off nicely.
I did like the open-ending and also the way it finished I feel the door is open for a new spinoff series with the younger actors leading.
