I gave up on Yellowstone halfway through season 2 as I thought it was terrible. Pick up tidbits here and there of what unfolded afterwards on YouTube and whatnot and it sounds like it only got more preposterous.
You could be onto something there- 1923 season 1 was very good, was set up to be a brilliant second season which was poor, Landman the same so far. 1883 was excellent and only 1 season.

Seems like he has a very good idea, takes it so far and then has no idea how to wrap it up or develop it further. Probably far too many projects going on at the same time as well.

It's very strange as he's shown with some of his movies that he's a very very good writer. Sicario is one of the best movies of the last 25 years for me. Hell or high water is great as well.

Someone here put it very well a few months ago. His TV shows aren't dramas, or any sort of "prestige TV" if you don't mind the term. They're big budget soap operas.

He's also clearly a complete egomaniac. Has he written himself a character for Landman yet?

Set myself up with a soundbar and surround sound system for Christmas and it really makes a difference and sounds great for Stranger Things , wish I bought one sooner.

not to take away from the TV shows topic, but what kind of sound bar / surround sound setup did you go for given your wiring prowess. All bluetooth?

It's probably a bit on the basic side considering you can spend beyond €2k on some systems but after a bit of research this one got very good reviews most places I looked

As regards connections, the bar is connected via eARC HDMI to the TV and the sub and rear speakers do need a mains supply power source but they are connected via Bluetooth to the main soundbar.
I'm very happy with it while knowing I'm sure there are far better sounding systems but also with a far bigger price tag.

I thought 1923 was far better than 1883.

I think 1923 is an exception to the Sheridan rule due to extenuating circumstances. There was a clear point half way through series 1 where a second series was approved and it then went into a nothing-ever-happens lull, which continued right through the halfway point of season 2.

I reckon it was originally written as a nice and tight 10-12 parter like 1883. It certainly started and ended very well.

Out of curiosity, any issue with the sound syncing to what's actually being said on the TV. My oul fella has a sound bar and I always think the Bluetooth connection leaves a slight lag that annoys the life outta me

No lag at all, but I've the soundbar connected with a HDMI cable to the eARC port so I presume that's why . The Bluetooth part is only for the rear and sub woofer speakers.
Check and see does the soundbar have the hdmi or optical connections and that should sort it.

Quote from: Armagh18 on January 05, 2026, 11:41:56 AMLandman has fallen off a cliff this season, feels like the second season of 1923 were you watch an episode and wonder what the actual point was, but the characters are interesting/easy enough on the eye to keep you watching.

Yeah the wife is a fairly pointless character and the stuff with her and the daughter in the old peoples home was just ridiculous.

JoG2

Wife and daughter are an absolute highlight for me

Banks of the Bann

Landman has the same producer as Yellowstone, both start off okish but soon descend into unwatchable shite.

gallsman

Sheridan will devise a ludicrous 6666 crossover arc. It's inevitable.

Yeah was thinking that myself. Surprised Travis didn't ride in to save Tommy when he was in trouble there.

DaleCooper

Stranger Things hardcore fans are convinced a secret episode is gonna be released to explain everything.

That sort of sums up the last season, some good spectacle but plothole riven narrative mess and brutal flat ending.

YMMV

Quote from: JimStynes on January 01, 2026, 08:27:35 PMContinuing on with the French shows I'm
watching. I've started one called Spiral and it's very good so far. 8 seasons so plenty of watching to do.
I am curious, were you not on the board when we were fulsomely praising  Le Bureau and Spiral to the
highest hilt? it's as if you are only now discovering the Barca team  of 2011 that had Xavi, Iniesta and Messi in flowing majestic form.
