Watching back the entire thing I noted maybe 3 Lough players have only played club, the rest have pedigree at schools, sigerson and county.

Its not just having two of the best young forwards in the country, it's the entire infrastructure behind them.

You're correct of course, may never happen again so I expect they'll raise the roof.

What were the foundations of this Loughmacrory team? Was it a succession of strong underage teams competing at Grade 1/2 level or a once in a generation side that have come through as a unit?

You'll will be lucky to get any Lough posters for a few days - I see 2 degrees in full swing in the club rooms.

Loughmacrory members can correct me but I can have a stab at it from an outsider looking in at from a close by club.

Generational Crop for sure. Lough had some good footballers in the past and some fairly good teams (an U21 winning team would have been the nucleus of the team for years which managed to get to senior) but had very limited success in Senior Champo however this past 1 or so years they have consistently producing teams that would compete and win in D1 youth.

Community Investment
There facilities are unbelievable - I think they benefited from a £1m grant for that area and now have everything you would need to develop players

Growing Population?
It would appear to me that the population in that area is growing with numerous housing estates popping up over the last decade - people moving to that area for housing.

Club and School Structures
Obviously a club who wins the O'Neill cup for the first time have their house in order but into that there always seemed to be a focus on their primary school. Often saw them photographed with Cumman na Bunscoil titles over the years with current players to the fore. Im not sure what went before in that school but I know that part of the current backroom for Lough is a teacher there and has coached them lads in the area.... ironically with the help of a Carrickmore Stalwart which would make you wonder - has he added to the demise of Carrickmore. :p

My 2 cents!! :)

Congratulations Loughmacrory from an jealous Kildress man! :)

More of a rule query and not a knock on the ref who did well.

Did I see Trillick pass a free back to the keeper with about 10 mins left yesterday? Is that allowed?

DaleCooper

Fairly sure back passing to goalie is not allowed even from frees but I don't think that occurred in any case. [Only allowed inside large rectangle]

There was talk of black card for tackle on McElhom and a penalty award, in keeping with rules. Ref gave yellow.

Ronan Fox looked to have touched ball on ground after catching it and falling awkwardly.

My reading of that incident was that the ref was telling the Trillick player to go backwards to take the free, hence the player kicked the ball to the keeper to then take the free from correct position who in turn kicked it back to the outfield player to play on...

Maybe I am wrong but that was what I assume happened

Maybe. I would need to see it again but that's the most likely scenario.

Eoin McElholm mother is also principal of the school
Club have serious influence including board of governors
It's like an academy for the club
One piece of the jigsaw but they all add up

Quote from: Hand of God on October 27, 2025, 08:32:43 AMFair play to Lough, didn't see it coming and could have been a lot larger than final margin was.

The O'Kane error kept Trillick in touching distance in first half. Cathal Donaghy was immense for them and came up with big scores and crucial times.

Was surprised at how loose the Trillick defence was, particularly in 1st half.

They had a spell similar to when Kerry destroyed Armagh, won ball after ball it was impressive. Mcelholm hitting crossbar and wasteful greedy play by Gallagher meant they didnt fully capitalise. Only for goal it was double scores 12 to 6

Brennans decision on two pointer and Richie not having a lash at a goal when there was a mistake made by Lough on kickout may haunt them.

Combined age of Loughs twin threats is 39. A full year younger than two trojan Trillick panellists. Potential of that group is incredible tbh. A great day for Tyrone GAA!

Some achievement considering one of them is 28 which would make the other one 11

Clearly taking about mcelhome and mccullagh sieve head

alwaysbackthedraw

Late to the party here, I can nearly hear the neighbours celebrating from here. As a Carmen man I of course wouldn't enjoy watching them win but they totally deserve it. Beating that Trillick team full of stalwarts is impressive, they didn't just win it I thought that they dominated it. There was times in the game Trillick didn't have any answers to what Lough was bringing to them

CD would be my MOTM thought he was immense throughout the game, when Lough needed scores into the wind in the second half he was there man and came up and kicked them.

Ronan fox seemed to be marking Rory Brennan and roasted him. Didn't let Rory make his usual runs up the pitch.

Mcelholm and mccullagh were superb aswell, mcelholm is some spectacle to watch at full speed.

Trillick will be back however they always do come back, I think Trillick need to start integrating their younger players into the team more, likes of the Corry cousins.

Another unbelievable championship, I hope the county board can look into the price of the games come championship next year.

This has definitely been one of the best Tyrone championships I've watched, throughout all 3 divisions.
Hopefully county board keep with the same structure.
