Like I tell our young lads, don't get too high over a win, don't get too low over a loss. With Manchester United it is the opposite of that - for our own supporters and opposition fans/media etc.

So far this year they've beaten teams at the bottom of the league, lost to teams at the top and are currently mid table. And improving their midfield, widely recognised to be lacking, won't take them closer to competing with the top sides? Doesn't sound all that nonsensical to me.

Better players than Adam Wharton have failed miserably at United. You are talking about a hypothetical situation anyway he doesn't play for United and may never do. 

They are miles off City, Liverpool and Arsenal and that's without having to compete on the European front. (Also out of the League Cup to mighty Grimsby Town a competition they should have been targeting to go deep in)

The dreaded vote of confidence?

Jim Ratcliffe has said he wants to give under-pressure head coach Ruben Amorim three years in the job to prove himself.

The Portuguese coach has a contract at the end of the 2026/27 season, by which he would have been in charge at the club for two and a half years, with the option of an extra year.

Ratcliffe said the 40-year-old manager is a "good guy" and has time to turn things around.

"Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years," he told The Business podcast, produced by The Times and The Sunday Times.


Asked if Amorim is going to get three years, Ratcliffe replied: "Yes. That is where I would be. Three years. Because football is not overnight.

"It's three years. You also look at [Mikel] Arteta at Arsenal. He had a miserable time over the first couple of years.

"We have to be patient. We have a long-term plan. It isn't a light switch.

"You can't run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions to some journalist who goes off on one every week."
