Shortage of refs is no doubt an issue, but the amount of people involved in running clubs nowadays is stretching resources, so the number of people with the time to get involved in officiating our games is decreasing.
At one time it was a matter of sweeping out the changing rooms, cutting the grass on the pitch and getting it lined, put up the flags and ensure there's someone at the gate to take the money...
Now we have committees for everything, clubs have gyms which are open to everyone not just players, they have bars, they provide facilities for functions etc. plus almost all clubs have at least one second/training pitch, all of this requires people to look after it.
The Gortin situation is a bad one but in a lot of clubs you have issues, it's turned into a power thing, people want to get involved in 'the committee' so as they control the narrative, clubs are paying outside managers when there are people within their clubs more than capable of taking the senior team, mainly down to personalities.
I saw a post about the cost of outside managers and it is ridiculous to say the least the amount of money that is being wasted, in the article it questions why the money isn't spent on coaching underage teams, but again that's a bigger issue in a lot of clubs. The Coaching officer role that was introduced is usually given to someone who is not right for the role and they go about creating their version of what it should be, they get all of their mates and relations in to take all of the various teams and proceed to train them as mini adults (because they don't know any better), Go Games players spending 10-15 minutes doing warm ups and stretching, same at the end of a session, this is where clubs really need to focus, getting the correct people into the right roles, not a case of which one of our group of friends would be interested in that job...coach education is important but you can only educate those that want to be educated too...

Any thoughts on the proposed league changes for div1 and 2 next year?

For anyone unaware the majority of club delegates have voted in favour of splitting both divisions into a and b. Top 8 teams in div 1 this year will qualify for 1a next year then next 5/6 plus promoted teams playing in 1b.

Relegation will be the same with bottom team in the b league being relegated with the next 2 entering a relegation playoff. top 2 in B promoted to A and bottom 2 in A relegated to B

No more playoff for the league title with the top in A winning it. Starred games are worth 2 points for a win and non starred worth 3 for a win.

Compared to the other option of 7 starred games worth 2 points and 8 non starred games worth 3 points with the result being top half teams get 8 home games the following season as a reward. Option B of 1A1B2A2B3A3B is definitely better.

This is incorrect.
There hasn't been a vote on which option to go with yet.

There will be a restructuring of the All County Leagues at Senior and Intermediate level in 2026. Club delegates will vote on their preferred options at the next monthly meeting of the County Committee (Tuesday, April 1).

Why are they getting rid off the inter-division play offs?

E.g. Proposals:
Bottom Team goes down
Next two play off. Loser goes down. Winner stays up.

Why not keep it as it currently is?
Bottom Team goes down
Next two play off. Loser goes down.
Winner plays team coming through promotion play-off from league below.

By getting rid of that third possible promotion slot from Divisions 2 and 3 there's going to be some amount of dead rubber games from half way through the league onwards...

Why would anyone think that's a good idea? That scramble to make the promotion play-offs keeps things active and very competitive in both those divisions right up until the end of the season. Stupid to do away with something that clearly works.

Assuming you havent or dont play? Imagine you are sitting 3rd-6th in the table vying for promotion or 14th-15th and fighting relegation. Potentially out in the 1st round of the championship but have to wait until club championship is over to dictate who makes the playoffs, with 6th potentially not even making the cut.

Option B makes most sense as 8 teams in a league with 2 promoted and 3 in a relegation battle (With 2 down) so only 3 dead rubber positions. Like the split in division 3 it takes away the potential mis matches and creates more competitiveness.

Even option A has added that those who finish higher get more home games the following season to give you some drive to win the remainder of your games.

Lol oh don't worry I've played, been and am involved enough. And in plenty of play-off games going both ways. Why would I want my season to be over if out in first round of championship? If my goal is promotion and its gone from winning the championship and I can't win the league then I would absolutely want a chance at the play-offs rather than having any dead rubber games. Having been on the end of a relegation due to teams effectively throwing dead rubber games at the end of the year, the less possibility for those the better.

Maybe the cutting down to 8 teams will help this. Could there be an option even for 3rd and 4th positions (or 2nd v3rd if a team wins the double etc.)to play-off and the winner play the winner of the relegation play-off? Would mean less possibility of any dead rubbers. They're a crap way to end a season, and unfair on teams who suffer because some other team got a handy win that was given to them by a team with nothing to play for.

Maybe others don't though.

Apologies I stand corrected, I'm assuming though if there's to be a vote on that option then there must have been support from multiple clubs on it.
