There's no doubting Assad did some unspeakable things in Syria in the name of "maintaining order" but I'd not be rejoicing yet when you see who's taking control in these ISIS - Hayat Tahrir al-Sham mishmash of terrorist organisations backed by Turkey, Israel and the US...

You can only hope for the Syrian people that they get some sort of self determination at last, but I'm not holding my breathe on that happening.

I called my dad in Damascus, and I swear, it's the first time in my life I've heard him speak so freely.

He lived his whole life in fear of the Assad regime, he used to even scold me for my activism, worried it might get the rest of the family in trouble with the regime.

Today, he's crying while talking to me, finally speaking without fear.

So it isn't Abu Mohammed al-Jolani and ISIS who've taken over Syria and even Uncle Sam has him and his group on a terrorist watch list due to his Jihadi links?

Getting rid of a dictator is always good and if Abu Mohammed al-Jolani and his gang leave the Syrian people to make up their own minds then all the better, but I don't know about you, I'd have my doubts about that!
