Quote from: Banks of the Bann on December 08, 2024, 08:00:43 PMLots of Syrians absolutely elated at the fall of Assad.

Don't they know brutal dictatorship, as prescribed by western 'leftists', is good for them?

Have the crimes of Assad been explained but not endorsed yet?

Syria is a really complex place, someone (Benny I think) had a good explanation, and while others from different parts of the place may view it differently Assad leaving brings a lot of uncertainty going forward, that area has tried to be 'fixed' for thousands of years, won't be 'fixed' in my lifetime

I'm fairly sure that those Syrians that are ecstatic at the fall of the butcher Assad are aware of the complexity of the situation in Syria.

But for someone sitting on the banks of the Bann they'll know how complex and deadly it is than you..

If you think that the incoming crowd are any better you'd be wrong

They're celebrating. Jubilant. But you know better. No bother.

I glad he's gone, they are celebrating, great, and so they should, considering how many have been murdered tortured lost and displaced in the past 50 years from when his dad was in place, but This bunch coming in or whoever wants to overthrow them will bring uncertainty. Hopefully they'll bring in reform, democracy, free speech which hasn't been about.

Islamist Groups aren't exactly noted for those kind of things!

Meanwhile we seem to have a new Skull on the Board...

No time for anyone messaging me with 'what's next? you have to learn from history'.

For decades we weren't allowed to live in the present. We weren't allowed to feel joy. We weren't allowed to just exist for a moment freely. Right now - with all our concerns and fears - with NO ONE knowing what's to come - and Syrians more concerned about this than others - the only thing that matters is that we are liberated from Assad.

In this moment in time, what matters is OUR joy. OUR rejoicing. OUR reuniting with family. OUR narrative. This is our moment and those attempting to sully it without a shred of humanity or understanding of what we've been through - by fear-mongering or simply not reading the room, are unwelcome.

It's a discussion board, I'm discussing what's happened and what may happen. You've pulled plenty on here for their opinions and that ok.

You've based those on your view on things, so am I.

I hope I'm wrong, I hope these people get what they deserve

Freedom with the stench of CIA involvement rarely results in freedom.

General rule of thumb is not to take what ever moral position being pushed by USA.

Sowing dissent in a strategically important land linking the middle east to Europe suits our western leaders and Israel. It will be turmoil there for years but strategic interests will be looked after

But wait, have you all not read this document from 1996 written by Richard Perle. I heard about it last week myself on Max Blumenthal's GrayZone channel. You Syrians need to "look into it" a bit more.

Here we have Skull actually articulating his in-depth geopolitical analysis. Just take the opposite position of the US, no matter what. Not much 'nuance' there. I assume he was against the GFA in 1998 also.

Anyway..

The thing about western so-called anti-imperialist 'leftists' is that they actually don't mind Islamist regimes if they meet certain criteria.

If the Islamist regime is opposed to the US and Israel, then any crime against humanity committed against their own people is simply ignored or met with a shrug of the shoulders, even atrocity denial and apologia.

Here Skull, would you have fears now that the dictator Assad has fallen that Syria might become an oppressive Islamist theocracy like Iran?

Syrians are mocking western so-called 'leftists':

https://x.com/deemashqi/status/1865943409048887371?s=46

"Guys I know freeing thousands of prisoners from underground dungeons is cool and all but is it really worth it if their freedom conflicts with my geopolitical worldview"

"I saw a little kid who spent his entire life in a death camp finally see sunshine but I couldn't help but think of Hezballah's cross border drug supply routes being severed."

Banks of the Bann

They are happy but have they read any Chomsky books or perhaps this 1996 document written by Richard Perle?
