Quote from: Truthsayer on September 14, 2024, 02:15:20 PMWhat odds about the Euros? A decent GAA stadium is needed at Casement Park. The British government is never to be trusted. If we don't know that by now...
GAA is an All Ireland organisation: this €13 billion needs to be allocated and distributed... obviously housing/poverty a priority but GAA should be getting funds towards Casement Park from it too. It's a lot of money.

Oasis and ACDC money needs to be distributed. How much more hand-out do the GAA need for a vanity project?
You'll find that the GAA has for decades made, and continues to make, a great contribution to Irish community life than any other organisation in the country including the Catholic Church. It is a decent GAA stadium is needed not a 'vanity project' (today's buzzword) for Gaelic Games in Ulster.

It's not todays buzzword, many of us said it from day one

I'd imagine the 26 Cos Taxpayers' €50m will probably still be given.
But the Ulster Council might decide to modernise Clones and divert it to that.
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

"The decision not to proceed with Casement Park in time to host Uefa Euro 2028 is deeply disappointing and a missed opportunity not only for local sport, but for our economy," she said.
"This was a unique opportunity to create jobs, boost tourism, and showcase our island's sporting talent on the global stage.
"We will continue to work with the GAA, our local executive and the two governments to push this project forward and get these state-of-the-art facilities built and a first-class stadium for Gaelic games delivered.

Just hot air from Michelle. It's clear the UK government aren't going to put money towards the project in its current form.
It will be redeveloped but not as a soccer stadium. More like Thurles or Limerick
Fans don't have to be segregated....
I don't disagree that it won't be built but the white elephant currently proposed needs put down, buried and scale back the stadium as many of us have been saying from day one. Amateurs in Ulster GAA playing at big boys games, being fed shite by amateur politicians in Stormont and finally having their eye wiped by professional politicians in London who are used to big boys games. It was a predictable outcome from back when Hardstation was a young fella.

It should and will be built but it has to be the stadium we need not the one certain people want.

Not a chance, Clones is a shithole and always will be. Decent ground but the roads leading to it are a complete nightmare and parking is a disaster.

All that was ever needed was a new stand like at Healy Park or the Athletic grounds and to spruce up the terracing. The pitch, floodlights and media centre were all good at the time of closure.

The media centre was only there a few years

You'd imagine the £62m still owed from the 2011 Stormont allocation of funds,  £15m from GAA and €50m from Irish government would build or renovate a decent GAA stadium. There's still a lot of money on the plate for Ulster GAA.

100%

Phase 1, as above. Immediately

Phase 2, state of the art main stand on one side of the pitch. Terracing renewed on remainder of ground. 2027/2028

Phase 3, covered terrace opposite side of the pitch. 2029/2030

Northern Ireland is *special*.There are adults in Dublin and elsewhere who care about it.
Casement will be rebuil but not with 40,000 seats

ONeill

Get McAleer and Rushe on it. Within 2 years it will be built and host a Tyrone v Armagh game with a concert involving Malachi Cush, Philomena, and get the Cardinal to throw in the ball.

Open parking on the M1 hard shoulder and Curleys.

Fuscos will do a deal and the Falls Rd Bowling club will offer cheap pints.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

I don't think that  post    could  be any more  Tyrone. All that's missing is a  mention of Garth Brooks and  Logie.

Quote from: Truthsayer on September 14, 2024, 02:15:20 PMA decent GAA stadium is needed at Casement Park.

1. The GAA has survived without any games at Casement now for over 10 years.
2. Define "decent". Ulster council should return it to Antrim county board with whatever is left of the €15m the GAA gave toward it and slink away off under a stone.
3. Rebuild it as the county ground. How many does that need to hold? 10k? 15?

edit: I see you and a few others talking sense in later posts.

Replace the stand.
Rebuild and cover the far terrace.
Leave the ends for now. They can be terraced later.

Yeah I never was sure about it at all. Been a disaster from day one and I still wonder who made ludicrous promises etc at the start to mushroom it to the mess it has become.

Get antrim the stadium back and get a respectable county ground built then move on from this debacle.
