I remember being at a minor club game and Martin Coyle and Liam Donnelly had just managed Tyrone to 2004 All Ireland minor final. This aul boy was complaining that lad from his club wasn't on the team. I ses, "They just won the All Ireland!"... he replied, "Just about..." Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
I'd go after Tally and whoever he brings with him... he won Kerry that All Ireland in 2022 albeit Tyrone not in same place they were when he went down the road...

He'd tighten up the back line for a start

That's what he turned in Kerry. In '22 the amount of turnovers etc was so obviously Paddy's work... year before Tyrone hit them for 3 goals and other games they were getting torn apart at the back.

It's like the boy who argued against Raymond Munroe stepping to to the senior role in 2011 cos he, according to the armchair expert "almost cost us 2 All Irelands minor titles in '08 and '10"

Exactly. Is a lot of that. Or you could have rolled that team out of a bag...

Quote from: DuffleKing on May 28, 2024, 09:26:55 PMJeez - a Fermanagh man needed to sort you out?

The man has lived in Tyrone 25 years, I think he can be given a pass by now.

Not sure about ORourke. Couldn't do it with Monaghan anytime they hit Croker.

Truthsayer

That's a bit severe considering where he took Monaghan with a limited enough panel at his disposal...

O'Rourke took the Monaghan job in 2013, and won a first Ulster Senior title for 25 years.[1] He took Monaghan from Division 3 to Division 1 in successive seasons.[1] Under his stewardship, he led Monaghan to a first win over Kerry in 27 years during the 2015 National League. They also lost narrowly against Dublin in the same year's League semi-final.[1] They reached the Ulster final in the next two seasons, which was three final appearances in a row, the first time in 92 years for Monaghan.[1] He managed the county to four All Ireland Senior quarter finals and took them to the 2018 All Ireland Senior semi final, only losing by a point to Tyrone before he left in June 2019.[

As Tyrone supporters, it's very frustrating at the minute for all of us. Our lads deserve the best and it doesn't seem to be happening. We have the talent in the county to compete with anyone in Ireland over the next few years but we seem to be struggling. Our minors have underachieved in last number of years and are currently in a B competition which is embarrassing for Tyrone. Our seniors don't look to be progressing. the u20 team had great success but it seems the u20s were just such a talented group. But I think dook has to get some credit here as the same team couldn't win minor all Ireland which is easier won than an u20? I hate slating managers as they are all good enough fellas, giving their time but when is there going to be some foresight. Who is appointing managers and are there no better candidates?

But it's 2 different u20 all ireland winning teams.

Found it notable the turnover in players between minor and U20 in recent years

Very few of the minor team who lost to Meath were playing in the recent U20 win, with a number of starters not even on the panel, in effect a very young U20 team with some only finished up at MacRory

Similar a few years ago when McHugh was MF on the winning U20 team 3 years before his final year

How is it that 17-18-19yos are significantly outnumbering 20yos on the 20s team?

Fall off between 20s and Senior is to be expected, but seems a gap between minor and 20s

There is some serious talent coming through at the moment but Senior mgmt is the big ticket item on the horizon, the right appointment is critical, no idea who would be best

Any notable omissions that come to mind? Guessing Strain would be the main one

Same team at the weekend? The team that started second half to start? Not sure what way they will go

From what I can see only 3 of the starting 15 from the u17s in 2021 weren't in the squad for the recent win.

Agree on next senior management it's hard to see any candidates that are banging down the door to be next in line. Even Tally has done his best work as a coach not as manager.

Any word on Meyler? Will he be back soon? What about the other injuries? Petey will be a big boost if he returns for Sunday. Big game for Tyrone now to get a bit of confidence back.

Anyone know how tickets work? Will it be assigned seating in the stand or just sit where is free?

I don't know if the older statesmen in our team would take Paul Duke seriously. So it is.
