Is there any grounds for appeal for the Kazakh? Better judges than me are saying it was Roy Jones embarrassingly bad. The Russian was pummelled yet got the decision.

What would their grounds for appeal be though? I think there has been appeals before but on technical grounds. Like a boxer getting a warning but judges not taking warning into account.
This just looks a bit sinister. A good nobbling job by the Russians is my guess.

Against crooked judges. I haven't seen one commentator make a logical case for the Russian having won the fight and yet all 3 judges scored the fight in his favour. I smell a rat there. Apparently a Japanese appealed a decision in London in 2012 and got the decision overturned, doubt anything will happen here but it was the worst decision I think I have seen in boxing for some time. The crowd reaction and that of the Russian boxer said it all.

In the London bout the Japanese fighter was behind after 2 rounds but knocked his opponent down 5 times in round 3 and he had also been awarded two-point penalty. The Kazak doesn t have those kind of grounds for appeal?

Very unlikely that they would reverse a decision and send the judges home.

Yes, I don't expect anything to happen in terms of overturning the decision but it puts a massive cloud over the boxing competition in general. The only way the Kazakh was ever going to win that fight was by knocking him out and even when that looked likely in round 3 the referee intervened.

It stinks and whatever shenanigans was behind that the Russian lad just a pawn.

It will be interesting to see how Russians do in other events where medals are decided by 'judges' rather than times and distance thrown.
