Quote from: Milltown Row2 on October 10, 2026, 07:59:49 AMPersonally and I've said that no contentious march should never go through unless proper thoughtful meditation is done to come to an agreement, all done without the glare of the media and social media agitators.

Had they went to the Garvaghy rd residents via some intermediary and said look, we are looking a way out to save face, we are willing (if agreed) to do a one and done in the morning at 8am no colours or bands, can we do that?

It would probably got better traction than the shit show they allowed to happen under Bryson and Lockhart.. not saying they would have agreed but this has turned on them massively

I'd say the determination may have been upheld via courts and that's why they have pulled it

Friday was probably their last chance to get a determination from the commissioner before he pissed off for the weekend and they couldn't take the risk that come Monday the parade would be deemed lawful leaving a decision to ban the march on much more controversial grounds. Interesting that the statement suggests the PC have informed the SOS that they made an error in their decision which would make you wonder why they challenged Mondays appeal at all.

I just checked, 200 million Chelsea got for selling the women's team to themselves. In all seriousness, are we happy to overlook that scam but think City need to go down 3 divisions for their scam?

Footballs a financially dirty game, always has been. I find the current bout of moralising from the commentators a bit pathetic. It's like they're pretending that football hasn't been bought and sold 100x before.

I'm a bit numb to the furore over this just because I expect all the big clubs are cooking the books to give themselves an advantage. Didn't Chelsea sell their women's team to themselves 2 years ago to boost their revenue on paper?

I'd expect that Arsenal, Pool, Spurs and Chelsea were all at similar scams during this era, the difference being they weren't caught out by a hacker handing the evidence over to Blid.

Look at PSG in Europe, a smaller European club bought by the Arabs and now consecutive EC champions, anyone think they did that fairly?

Quote from: lurganblue on October 07, 2026, 10:51:18 PMDigger is thoroughly going to divide the audience. I actually really enjoyed it. There are some hilarious moments, and some of it is just weird. I'll not spoil too much of it. For me it's well worth a watch but I know plenty will absolutely hate it.

I thought the performances in it were great. It's something completely different from Cruise.

Seems to be in the vein of the favourite and the Lighthouse. Both of which were shit.

I seen the Odyssey. It was predictably awful, why the critics feel the need to kowtow to Nolan's shite films is beyond me. It was a completely forgettable film.

Quote from: Orior on October 07, 2026, 01:42:52 PMSo farmers will basically get paid three times for the same parcel of land?

Definitely not, if that was the case the cost of the road would have nearly trebled.

Quote from: gallsman on September 27, 2026, 03:08:51 PMf**k me, it is incredibly simple.

A5? Because the incompetent DfI fucked up and didn't tick the boxes it needed to.

Drumcree? Because the incompetent PC fucked up and didn't tick all the boxes it needed to.

Judges do not have the discretion to consciously choose to ignore the law because the outcome is a disgrace. Is it that difficult to comprehend?! But sure just you keep ranting and raving. That'll help.

Seems the DfI had all the boxes ticked.

Bastards are still at it. Don't ever let anyone try to convince you that this is an issue that only existed in the past.
Nor only an issue that existed in the Catholic Church for that matter. BBC and British Government more than their fair share of skeletons. Or what's happening across the pond with Epstein. Cover up right in front of our eyes.
We didn't give Epstein schools and hospitals to run

Didn't they found all those schools and hospitals themselves? "We" didn't give them anything. Before that there wasn't schools or hospitals catering to the lower classes of soceity.

Can the legal heads here explain is there any comeuppance for the previous judges who got the decision on the A5 wrong? I mean if a doctor or engineer made a mistake and it cost the state 200 million I'm sure there's a chance he'd be in front of a disciplinary board. Does this happen for judges who make a mistake in a decision?

Talk of Jack Willis playing for Ireland. I know rugbys residency rule is an absolute joke but this would take the piss completely.

Quote from: trileacman on October 04, 2026, 04:21:41 PMI don't know how you can suggest Ballard or Charles are inferior to that ROI are fielding. Fulham spent 30 million on Charles, a figure none of the ROI midfield have commanded for a transfer. Ballard is a starter for a mid table PL side, much the same as O'Shea and Egan.

Anyway it doesn't really matter, your point was that the FAI has a better youth development than the IFA which if you look at both squads and where they're playing isn't correct.

Saying that the FAI are light years ahead in youth development is just complete bollox, with no evidence whatsoever to back it up.
O'Shea and Egan, a  Dub and a Corkman.

Ballard and Charles are from Manachester.

Your examples.

And what? Your point was that the FAI are light years ahead in terms of development, that's a load of bollox.
The best NI players are all English. Your list.

The best Irish players are Irish. They learned to play in Ireland.

Keane, McGrath, Moran, McClean, Staunton, Coleman, Whelan, Long, Doyle, Beglin, Ferguson all started in the LoI.

What's the IL list?

Neill Lennon, Gerry Armstrong, Martin O'Neill, Josh Magennis, Pat Jennings, Mal Donaghy all started in the IL.

Besides going back 45 years to when Ronnie whelan, Staunton and McGrath kicked a ball in the LOI doesn't back up anything you've said about the FAI's youth development.

But you can go back 60 years to Jennings, who didn't play IL by the way...

You can huff and puff all you like. The FAI have had some hand in developing most of the current Irish team. The IFA can't say the same.

LoI clubs are miles ahead of IL clubs.

Ireland underage are ranked miles ahead of NI teams.

This isn't a serious debate

The Irish U-17 that qualified for World Cup were still hammered 1-3 in qualifying by NI with Céadach O'Neill running the show. And despite that game in 2024, an Irish senior manager had still not seen O'Neill play two years later. Its all well and good saying LOI is higher standard but that is only because LOI plays summer football and players are in peak condition when they meet Irish League teams in Europe competition. And watching Israel game (a crap team), save for Troy and Kelleher, the standard of player we are producing is abysmal.

If the FAI youth development was really all that then they'd surely have developed a half decent midfielder by now. A one legged Glenn Whelan would get a run out for this current Irish side.

Collins, O'Shea, Egan and O'Brien are decent CB options to be fair.

Loi teams are better than their IL counterparts and have been for some time because the league is bigger and there's more money floating about for wages. That's not surprising. But at international level ROI and Ni are operating at roughly the same level for the past 10 years, largely because NI exceed expectations and the ROI massively underperforms given the level they used to be at.

The IFA can say the same. 90% of their current squad came through NI underage teams. You can throw in all the unrelated remarks you want about Loi clubs v IL clubs or Ronnie Whelan playing Loi back in 1982, it doesn't change the fact that your suggestion about ROI youth development being a load of bollox.

I wouldn't be so sure. Lots of people brought their kids up to Belfast for it this year. Would they be as willing if they thought Byrson was turning up with a loyalist mob to disrupt things?

That's the big loss here. Its certain that they'll try to hamper next year's Fleadh with some form of illegality. Even the threat of it alone will be enough to put off some visitors.
