I know we have the Dark Knight thread with no spoilers, but I thought we needed somewhere were we could talk about how much we loved the film and which bits we thought were great etc...

****** WARNING! SPOILERS! ******

My personal fave was The Joker leaving the Hospital trying to get the rest of it blown up, him walking away in the nurses outfit looked hilarious!

Heath was good as the joker but is he really anywhere near Oscar standard? Would we be saying this if he was still alive? Sounds like a wee bit of Nostalgia to me... there should be some award dedicated to him yes, but as good as he was, don't think it should get an Oscar, Jack Nicholson didn't so Heath definitely shouldn't!

Film was fantastic, the action was brilliant, and as was already said, it didnt seem like 2 and a half hours at all, unlike American Gangster, whatever was in The Dark Knight was essential to the telling of the story!

eh... Paul Galvin anyone?

And if we are going to list Paul McGrane for his style of tackling then how can Dara O'Sé be left out, the man throws dirty thumps left right and centre!

I like the Derry Airs, snappy! Another suggestion was Derry Products..

Louth Speakers may well just be a winner, the only other suggestions were Mouths or Louts..

Kerry Maids was also suggested

Can i just ask something...

Is it just a sensitivity towards Downs Syndrome? Would people have complained had i called a team "Antrim Alzheimers"? or Derry Dementias? I mean anyone can see that those team names are clearly just for alliteration, but would there have been uproar for making a "sick" joke about those sufferring from Alzheimers? Would people have cared for the Donegal Dyslexics?

In my honest opinion, there would not have been complaints, or if there had been they would not have been so strong as to ask for the Mods to ban me.

I'll admit that I was very proud to have thought of this idea late one night (the idea in question being the whole concept, not the Down name) , and had an enjoyable hour or so discussing it with my friends. I wanted to share them with others, and in hindsight may have been better to leave out the Down one.

I have apologised countless times, there was no malice or sickness intended, I would just like to move on so this topic, what i would deem enjoyable, can progress and we can hear more suggestions for team names..

Right ok, if i knew how to i would love to set up a poll to see how many people actually are offended by this. you are the only one to have complained, as i said if the Mods did read my posts they would see I genuinely wanted other people to see this idea.

Catch a grip of yourself man, if the Mods read all of my posts in this thread they will see that I have repeatedly said that this thread is a joke. No offence is intended. We did not come up with Down Syndromes and think "aw jesus thats funny i must sign up and post that". I thought that the rest of the team names were very good, we had come up with all the names and decided it was board worthy. I have already apologised to you personally, and to anyone else who was offended.

Note to all other readers:

This thread is intended solely as a joke. I find some of the team names very funny, and some quite clever e.g. Kerry Dolphins and Armagh Cardinals.

Are you kidding me? To cause trouble? I signed up because I have been a long time reader of the board but have never had any reason to post on it. Now that my friends and I had this conversation, which I found very funny, I thought I had a reason to post. The Down Syndrome team name was just one of 29 that we came up with, I have no problem defending my right to post on this board. I thought that these names and this concept were too good to keep to ourselves, so as I said I felt i finally had a reason to sign up to the board.

Clearly I have caused offence to your fragile mindset, so I apologise for offending you. Anyone else who is offended I will apologise to also, but out of 29 team names it is stupid to pick out just one. I didn't make up another 28 names just so I could post the Down name..

I have already clearly point out that no offence was intended, it is simply a team name, I could just as easily called them Down Mournemen or something like that, but in the vein of the Kil-DARE DEVILS, the Mayo Neighs and the Cork Screws, it is because the County's name lends to a phrase, in this case Down Syndromes. It has nothing to do with people in the county suffering from it or in no way an attack on Down people, it is merely a joke. I apologise to anyone who has taken offence, for those who haven't they understand that it is not intended to cause any discomfort amongst board members.

Yeah i was wary of the Down Syndromes one, was nearly not going to put it in but then i thought, the majority of people will see that it is a joke and take no offence, anyone who does i will defend it! was disappointed i had to settle for Sligo Fuckurselves, maybe their nickname could be the inbreds..

Any Sligo ones, there is no cynicism behind that, just trying for funny names..

Armagh Arch-Bishops (U21)
Armagh Priests (Minors)

Thats fair enough, just I wanted to have a thread where there are no arguments or any serious discussions about the potential for the GAA to become professional, just for some amusement to see if others could come up with better names or even just funny ones.

My personal favourite is the Mayo Neighs, although the subtlety of Cavan Cattle is brilliant..

Jesus Christ man its a joke! Are you actually being serious? Picking up on the point that Cavan Fermanagh and Monaghan would merge but being fine with the fact that one team are called the Down Syndromes, accompanied by the Antrim Jobs and the Mayo Neighs?

You clearly have had a humour bypass, you are entitled to think it isnt funny but its clearly all a joke, it wasnt actually a proposition!

Had an interesting late night chat with a few friends recently, it may have been the wisdom of the drink, but we got on to the topic of what a County's GAA team would be called if the GAA sold out and became franchised, American NFL style! In what turned out to be quite a funny conversation, some sensible and some rude names came up...some have names simply because their County name lends to it, others because of things in their County e.g. we have the Fermanagh Lakers.

Would be interested to hear anyone's alternatives?..
