Many wouldn't do that though.

(Agree on general points though. I think he just addresses everyone as school kids.)

If as Burns claims the reason no further action was because the referee dealt with it on the day, surely then Hurson should be stood down for future games as not seeing/taking proper action against both Clifford/McGuinness or any action against players contributing to a melee is as negligent as Conor Lane was in the league final. And has Lane not be unofficially disappeared by the CCCC.

The more time goes on, the more I think JB as a serious superiority complex. He talks some BS and expects everyone to buy into it.

I don't think he'll be seen as being a successful appointment, which is really disappointing as I thought he was a great appointment when he got the gig.

I agree. A spoofer of the highest degree.

What's his legacy?

He thinks people are stupid re; Brennan/Mc Guinness thing. Tries to bluff his way out of it.

To make some people forget that the GAA president is a figurehead position.

Sean Hurson refereed that game with officiating maturity, he deactivated any potential explosive outcomes, cleared the benches and laid down the law to the managers. The second half of that game was almost a game for pussies.

Unfortunately for Burns his tenure  won't be remembered for the successful implementation of the new rules imo. It will be remembered for him walking from one clusterf**k to another with very poor leadership. And I say that as someone who really wanted him to get the role initially. For someone who loves to talk, he has an uncanny ability of putting his foot in it every time he opens his mouth. Disappointing to say the least.

A lot to be said for the "stealth" presidents whose name you cant remember

It's the Rory Gallagher thing. He over reached and made himself look like a tool and I don't think people have forgotten. This stuff now isn't helping.

how often has action been taken when something has been in the report? D Connolly and the linesman for one? Thats wasnt dealt with on the day if memory serves me right

From the Bunker

Jarlath is a decent soul. But he often mixes up what are principal duties from work with Presidential Duties in the GAA.

restorepride

Jarleth has many great qualities and ticked all the 'Uachtarán' boxes for me.  Appointments to high places can do strange things to people and they can forget 'the bowl they were baked in'.  Recently he seems to speak with a moral arrogance, perhaps even condescendingly.

I don't like the way he uses references to the troubles in the North as a defence. "we have to be careful ..... that we don't descend to talk about the politics of the last atrocity - which they used to talk about in the North." (talking about the Michael Murphy incidence v Kerry in League Final).

"I don't need to be lectured .. (about violence)" comparison of North v Gaza after protest at Congress .

However the one that will need the most explaining in the long run is probably   .....!

"The Orange Order evokes exactly the same sense of community, identity - all those values" as the GAA. :o

Rules have changed since then on what the CCCC can and can't do. Had that incident occurred today in the same way the CCCC would be powerless.

The problem is he didn't lay down the law. He invented his own law. Some prefer that and call it common sense. The difficulty is it leaves you open to claims of inconsistency and bias

David, under what circumstances can the CCCC now give someone a suspension for an incident if the referee did not send off that player / official for said incident?
