Quote from: NotedObserver on May 31, 2025, 11:29:58 PMPotter on the development panel anyway. Looks a talent but judging by the likes of Shea Ohare there is a bit of S&C/experience required to bring upto standard

Seen O'Hare brought up a few times tonight. What game time has he had compared to some? The experienced players with years of s&c behind them were shocking.

O'Hare started and came on in several league games. He really didn't show anything in those games.

Compared to others?

O'Hare has played more for Ardboe than Tyrone in the last 3 months. Last featured for Tyrone in mid February in round 3 of the league v Mayo. He had a bad half last night but it was a tall order coming in to a team playing so badly and expecting to perform when he hasn't featured in the team.

From what I remember he featured in the early league games which we lost. When he lost his place we definitely improved towards the end of the league. As cameos go last night was fairly brutal.

You can't blame the type of game when u come on and make some of the mistakes he made.he was standing waiting on a ball like it was reserve game. No doubt he will come back from this but call it what it is.

Quote from: ONeill on May 31, 2025, 11:55:22 PMIs it fair to say that the new rules are not suited to Tyrone?

Seems to have weakened Morgan's strengths with kick-outs. When he had multiple options, short and long, he was able to bang it cleverly to someone down the middle. Now that it's a lottery whether he hits it long due to the number of bodies outfield, his accuracy is on the decline. In addition, we seem to be reliant on one man (BK) to field the ball.

I don't think that's true. Teams that were good under the old rules last year (Armagh, Donegal and Galway) are still the top teams. They've good squads and are well managed.

Tyrone lack a clear kick-out strategy. If I have to watch another Tyrone player point into empty space whilst the ball flies over his head to an unmarked player I'll cry. We got lucky Patton was injured last week, he'd have pulled our press apart.

What kick-out strategy do you envision? What's the kick-out strategy of those other sides?

Armagh go man to man, it's not that hard to pick up your marker, follow him and challenge him for a kick out. Instead we do this stupid zonal thing that isn't working, a passing glance at our kick outs stats would tell you that. You don't see it on television but at a game our kick out challenge consists of 8-9 players pointing and shouting at each other instead of actually marking someone.

Likewise on our kick outs we do a lot of half-hearted running around trying to work a short one, at which point most of players are in a poor position on the 40m arc and Morgan just hoofs it long to a midfielder who has no-one there to win the breaking ball because they've all run away from MF. They need to realise once the short isn't on to turn and pack the middle and challenge for the break, not mooching round in circles like their playing musical chairs.

No harm but the talk of this being about mentality is BS, it's a failure of tactics and selection pure and simple. Donegal aren't Ulster champs because of Jimmy brought in a mentality, they're Ulster champs because he introduced a good tactical plan coupled with good players. Likewise Armagh are AI champs for the same reason. Mentality and pride are just buzzwords usually thrown out as explanations by people who don't understand tactics.

People are fickle.

One week Tyrone will be challenging for All-Ireland, next week, they're also rans.

Quote from: southtyronegael on May 31, 2025, 10:04:17 PMCan someone explain that performance to me please and thank you.

A shocking performance compounded by shocking management. Was at the game and much of the analysis is all wrong. Defence actually done very well given that the forwards were holding onto nothing and midfield was getting overrun. Ciaran Daly was actually excellent today, certainly stopped a point or two and a certain goal in the 50 min.

O'Rourke and Porters coaching of kick-outs are shambolic, it cost us big time against Armagh and once again today. We play zonal marking on Mayos kick outs and on our own guys just run around and then Morgan boots it long to an area where no Tyrone players are because they've all run short.

It was clear after 30 mins that canavan, mc curry and Bradley playing on top of each other wasn't working. MOR left them all on for 50mins and his only solution was to play Matty at FF and Bradley at wing forward. That's 2 players playing out of position with zero impact on the game. Tyrone actually bucked up and dragged themselves back to within a point in the 2nd half (mostly because Bradley was out of the way and Canavan and McCurry had room to play).

MOR then made 3 shocking subs to ruin Tyrone again. Ruari, Donaghey and O'Hare were all shocking when introduced. Again Ruairi played out of position at wing forward led to a penalty and free conceded and O'Hare gave away 3 really stupid frees and lost an easy kick out.

We've a big problem coming out of defence with nobody who can comfortably kick the ball forward. McKernan is having a stellar season but he's not comfortable kick passing. Neither can Daly, Con, McGeary, Donaghy or Seanie. MOR really needs to include some variety in the team and not rely solely on just a running game.

The lack of MF depth behind Con and Kennedy is a big problem too but I'd blame MOR for the complete failure to construct any kind of kickout plan or kick out press. McShane should have been made an option at MF, don't know why management froze him out. I had some sympathy for MOR at the start of season but he doesn't seem to learn any lessons from week to week, we see the same problems occur time and time again. There's only so many excuses you can make for him.

C Daly excellent? Are you for real? What did he score? Did he win any ball around the middle? Taken off again?

He shouldn't have been taken off, we had in back to within a point when he was subbed, game was lost from there.

He was instrumental in defence with a number of key turnovers and carried the ball out of defence several times when no-one else wanted to. He's not and never will be a free scoring wing forward, it's not his game. We started Sparky, Dara and McCurry for scores in this game and in 35 mins they contributed 1 point from play and I think they lost possession about 6 times in that 1st half.

You could point the finger of blame at lots of players yesterday, including another Trillick player, but Daly wasn't one of them.

Exactly that.. was boys like Trillick man just waiting the opportunity to get the boot into Malachy.. or if not that, girn bout the new rules 🤣😂

ClubScene13

Thought Daly better than normal last night but wouldn't be sticking the boot into lads like Shea O'Hare who've had limited chances, would ye say Ciaran has been lighting it up for the county? Yet has the 12 jersey on his back every day? His counterpart Aodhan donaghy while young, does not look like he can offer anything in terms of attacking play at this level. Where's my nearest hand pass essentially.

As for McShane, a don't want to see that name mentioned on here again, cheers men.

15 mins in and just look at the bite Derry have playing at home against Connacht opposition. Tyrone players rarely have that playing at home in Omagh. Looking back at past games in Dungannon in the 90's/early noughties and I can't remember too many lethargic performances if any.
