It is a rebuilding process after a couple of years when it was an entirely rudderless ship. Was never going to be fixed immediately. Still in the early stages of the rebuild Tyrone should have been beaten Armagh and came back to defeat Donegal in Ballybofey. Disappointing tonight but Mayo are a good team - and a team who had to win and who and played very well. Tyrone also missed some key players, while bringing in others who will go on to be key men and who learned  important lessons.

Fans need to see the bigger picture and keep the head 🔴⚪

Quote from: tyrone08 on May 31, 2025, 09:16:30 PMMalachy record so far isnt great reading. Relegation to division 2, beaten by Armagh, Win against a most likely tired Donegal team, beaten by Mayo.

The Cavan game is going to be a big one.
Or the other narrative is they lost to AI champions by a point, beat one of favourites for all Ireland and lost to a seasoned Division one team who got to league final. Mor isn't playing with the 2003-2008 vintage Tyrone fans would need realise that he's doing rightly with what he has.

Strangely, Tyrone are still favourites to top the group. But Cavan have to be defeated no matter what, then head-to-head rule means Donegal can't get above us.

That entails Donegal winning today and then beating Mayo at the neutral venue. Mayo are as inconsistent as Tyrone so no guarantee they will show up v Donegal.

That performance might be the best thing that happens Tyrone this year. The psychology of this team is the biggest issue at the moment. You don't know what performance you'll get from week to week from effectively the same group of players. They play up or down depending on what they are expecting from the opposition. They knew they needed to lift it in Donegal last week and brought a high level performance. Thought Mayo were only coming to fulfil the fixture and didn't get near championship pace.

The one argument I don't get is we're a team in rebuild. Even the more inexperienced players have been in the squad and playing 2-3 years. Of those that came on or featured last night only O'Hare and Donaghy are relatively knew. Daly, Devlin, O'Donnell, Quinn have all featured heavily over the last 2 years.

Kickouts are a serious problem. Kennedy has been covering up a lot of issues and his absence last night underlines just how important he is. Have to agree with another poster there about the full forward line. Bradley, Darragh and McCurry are all too similar. Want to make the same runs. Ruairi likewise. Need other options. The likes of Lorcan McGarrity did well last year when given limited chances but has been injured and not featured this year offers some more physicality. McShane got chances and never really took them.

Back to the drawing board. It'll not be a gimme by any stretch against Cavan. If we turn up and play like we did last night we could be out on our ear very handy

Assuming Donegal do what they do and beat both cavan and mayo it really is all or nothing against cavan.
Beat them and tyrone win the group on head to head v donegal
Get beat by cavan and tyrone finish bottom based on head to head v mayo

O'Shea had a good game as he often does. He didn't look like a world beater tho..

O'Shea was the best player on the park last night for me, really occupied and worked all the spaces in the half forward / midfield area - something none of our half forwards were able or have been able to do....

If Meyler is even half fit I think it's time he saw some time on the field. Brings an intensity in that area of the pitch that we don't currently have and badly miss.

Seen O'Hare brought up a few times tonight. What game time has he had compared to some? The experienced players with years of s&c behind them were shocking.

O'Hare started and came on in several league games. He really didn't show anything in those games.

Compared to others?

O'Hare has played more for Ardboe than Tyrone in the last 3 months. Last featured for Tyrone in mid February in round 3 of the league v Mayo. He had a bad half last night but it was a tall order coming in to a team playing so badly and expecting to perform when he hasn't featured in the team.

Here what's the bleeding story wanted to get covered stand tickets during the week and none available? Then I see the tv and the stand half full??? What is that about

If he's half fit he should be nowhere near a Tyrone game, after an extended layoff he needs a good run of club games

He blows hot and cold, but last night he had the run of the park, alarming to say the least

I wouldn't get too alarmed. Mayo always liable to produce a performance like that but lack consistency. One of those nites. We're not as good as euphoria after beating Donegal suggested or as bad as pessimism after last nite. You go again bate Cavan. Is about improvement, winning All Ireland this year always a bit fanciful..
Ps: need to get out of Omagh. Most uninspiring venue for Tyrone.

Quote from: Truthsayer on May 24, 2025, 09:12:22 PMMalachy is a class manager... credit were due as there were a few here only too keen to lay into him after relegation and the Armagh game and him just took over. He'll do good.. great performance 👏

You were one of the hype merchants yourself after the Donegal game. No harm but this is the worst Mayo team in 15 years, it's fairly embarrassing to get steam-rolled by them in Omagh. In a half of football we scored 4 points.

From what I remember he featured in the early league games which we lost. When he lost his place we definitely improved towards the end of the league. As cameos go last night was fairly brutal.
