GAA Discussion / Re: Seamus Donaghy RIP
February 17, 2010, 12:08:34 AM

Seamus  Donaghy  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Seamus Donaghy represented Dromore St Dympnas,St Josephs Teacher Training College, Tyrone and Ulster with distinction. He continued his gaelic football career in U.S.A. The quiet unassuming Donaghy returned to Dromore and played with great finesse against Carrickmore in Senior Club Championship final in the late 70's.
Have a vivid memory of his goal for Tyrone against Fermanagh in Ulster Semi Final '73  soloed passed Sherry like a cheetah    and blasted the ball to the Fermanagh net.
In the final, defeated Down to gain his first Ulster Senior Championship medal alongside Mc Guigan, Donnelly, King, McMahon's,Mulgrew,Taggart, McAnespie,Turbitt, Hetherington and many other Tyrone footballers.

Tyrone / Re: Tyrone Club Football and Hurling

;) Last player to score  a hat trick of goals for Tyrone seniors was Mattie McGlennan on a cold winter Sunday in Croke Park n.f.l. (ON HIS BIRTHDAY) against Dublin early 90s . I was there. Memorable occasion pre Sam Maguire era!

Well according to your statiscis a lot of irish fought in wars under a different group name in ww1 &2 .So some irish are definitely wearing the poppy if they or there family served in the WAR  ;)

I have no objection to anybody wearing a poppy. It is very narrow minded of anyone to see this as a sign of a particular religion/political views or nationality. Many irishmen lost their lives while in the forces not because of their nationality or lack of it. They simply saw it as an opportunity to earn money when times were hard. Many people are still losing their lives for the same reason. It is very judgemental of society to condone anybody wearing an emblem relating to history to an event in time to which they have remembrance of.

I  deplore all attacks on Orange Order/ people/ institutions / halls/property and heritage. It is part of their culture heritage. Put  it this way no Protestant has done me wrong. In fact none have ever done me any any harm. And quite a few have shown me true christianity and charitable spirit without being talkative about it. Lets live together and emblish the past. And GAA is part of my  heritage!
When we go to make our God I dont think he will ask you are you are you black/ white/christian/ muslim otc or agnostic. But we all make stupid mistakes( mostly through "man man made "drugs.
Thats why we are human. May people and God forgive us  ???

Although a Tyrone man through and through watched and cheered on Cushendall on tg4 today  lived in co antrim and travelled to school via cushendall  still have a soft spot for that beautiful part of the country.  How are danny mcallster & peter campbell keeping ex school mates from  early 70'?. Get MH to advise you about grinding out results i n important games.
Cushendall will be all ire champions next yr ! Thought your rcb and chb were superb

GAA Discussion / Re: The Greats that never were
November 23, 2007, 11:25:21 PM
Definitely one of the greatest to underachieve was Frank McGuigan  one of the most complete players in every sense for club county and province. Gifted, strong ,great feet, body swerve, panache, nowhow whatever!
Probably became  a gaa superstar too young. Probably needed to be nurtured guarded, protected as Tyrone county stars are now.
Undoubtedly should have achieved more at  a higher level if in the game now would be a super star.
Can't fault Frank as the infrstructure that is in Tyrone now wasnt their in 70s  and 80s  tried to redeem situation himself unfortunately career cut short.
I  have no doubt in saying if he had been there in 86 with mcgarvey lynch mcginn mckenna donaghy ohagan mallon and all the others we would have won the all ire.
Sad to see his son eqally talented cut done in the prime of his career despite 2 all ire medals and an all star which he deserved on merit but was erroeously denied by press and media.
