General discussion / Re: Protein
November 29, 2007, 04:10:17 PM
Regardless, it occurs naturally. Creatine and Protein supplements boost substantially the quantity of a particular substance a person has in their body, regardless of whether it is produced by the body or found in food. What's the difference between it and nadrolone?

ML, a little flaw in your logic. Nandrolone occurs naturally in the body. How is someone taking extra amounts of nandrolone different to someone boosting their protein intake using supplements?

Am I the only person who has an ethical issue with Protein or Creatine? Surely it's like taking any banned substance- a quick fx to catch up on people who've put years more hard work in the gym, no? Cheating is cheating.

As always lads, on the small chance that anyone finds a spare, keep poor little me in mind!

Munster football championship. Quoting the Ballylanders (a team from Limerick, whose county football is relatively decent, even if it's declined somwhat in the last few years) manager before the game against Nemo- "We'll give it a good go." Most St. Gall's (and Ulster)people would have had every faith that the possibility existed to beat Cross. They didn't turn up to "give it a go". Again, comparing the respective championships is ridiculous.

Are the current Cross team (1997-present) the most successful club team ever? I know Nemo had a period of dominance, but I dont know for how long. Can someone answer this for me please?

Cross. undoubtedly.

Yes, Nemo may have seven All-Irelands, but they're spread out over three decades. Once Bellew is fit, Cross will be playing with five of the team that started out in the Armagh championship in 1996- Hearty, Bellew, the McEntees and McConville. Five players, one third of a team still fit and playing. 12 Armagh, 6 Ulsters, 4 All-Irelands and the chance of a fifth to come? Best. Club. TEAM. Ever.

What a thread!! - you must be bored today O'Neill

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Oisin himself wouldn't even make that Kerry squad!!

Anyway, Nemo Rangers are more succesful than Cross (13 Munster Clubs & 7 All-Irelands - between 72-73 and 88-89 they won 9 Cork titles, 8 Munsters & 5 All-Irelands)

Aye, spread out over three decades. Cross have four, and are odds-on to make it a fifth, in 12 years. Please don't even compare the difficulty in winning a Munster Club title to the Ulster version.

General discussion / Album of the Decade so far
November 23, 2007, 10:46:32 PM
As it's GAAboard tradition to talk music lists round this time of year, what do people think are the albums of the decade so far, those that will stand the test of time? No compilations! I'll throw out three- Bruce's "The Rising", Arcade Fire's "Funeral" (I know it's clichéd these days to call it an album of the decade, but it really is still sensational and Richard Hawley's "Cole's Corner". Beautiful stuff altogether!

Name the starting lineup for the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks World Series team. :D

This was the series that brought baseball to my eyes! All  I really remember is Byung-Hyung Kim (sp?) blowing those two consecutive games!

Kieran wouldn't be anywhere near the level of CJ or Kevin in terms of mouthiness, but speaks more than he should all the same. It all comes from the da!

The McGourty question:

Kevin - Talented. Opinionated. Ambitious. Individualistic.
Kieran - Intelligent. Talented. Team Player. Untidy.
CJ - Brilliant. Natural. Overused.

SaffronSam would know more.

Are you still as friendly with Sean Mc Gourty, O'Neill? Not the most impartial observer are you?
ONeill is as impartial a man as we have in Antrim. Sure he's only an aul blow in who crept silently but dangerously across the lough. He'll be alright as long as he gets a fair amount of eels every month.

The only thing I'd say though ONeill, is regards "CJ - overused". At one time (2 years ago) I would have agreed but now I think he is playing the right amount. When he was playing minor football + hurling for Antrim, U21 football for Antrim (I think he missed the main game though), St. Galls minor football and hurling (they had a serious campaign for the UMFC), U21 for club, senior for club (All Ireland run) and schools football hurling and soccer (Mc Larnon and All Ireland run).
I think he has settled into playing Ryan/Sigerson/McKenna, Club U21, senior. County U21, senior. Still a fair bit but definitely not as hectic as two years ago.

I was part of that team two years ago and there's no doubt that CJ was playing far too much back then. It was the same with Niblock, started playing regular Senior football whilst still an U16. An honest assessment of the three of them from a clubmate and teammate.

Kevin- Ambitious, Dedicated, Immensely strong, mouthy, arrogant

Kieran- Intelligent, quick thinking, spontaneous, mouthy

CJ- Outstanding, nimble, slippery, completely confident in his own ability, deadly accurate, mouthy, arrogant.

The only problem CJ has is that he's still a wee bit small, but then again, look at the Gooch. I have no doubt whatsoever that he has the ability and potential to walk onto any senior inter-county team in the country.

Worth pointing out that all three of them are serious hurlers as well and if were to solely dedicate themselves to the small ball code, would undoubtedly be part of the Antrim setup.

Cheers lads, but there could be a change of plan. Will probably be flying out Monday the 25th now, and still probably coming home the Sunday. Getting free accomodation, so can't really complain about flights!

Cheers lads. I'm aware of Ryanair, but they fly to Beauvais, which is a good 60 miles north of Paris, then theres a 13 euro coach ride in which dumps you in the middle of nowhere!
