It's a sad day when Monaghan Utd are the only senior  team from Monaghan competing at a national level that you can reley on to compete and not make a f**king show of themselves.
"Magic Mons" all the way. Playing great stuff these days under Collins. Way more entertaining than the senior GAA team anyway.

Banty has described it as the 'draw from hell' A wee bit of reverse psychology maybe??!

On a different note all the Dubs that I work with are saying that if Monaghan beat Kerry then it's their All Ireland. Talk about counting their chickens...

I'm not usually a betting man but if I was having a bet on the Monaghan game it would def be the draw. 7/1 with Paddy Power looks very tempting.

This game has all the hallmarks of being a high scoring physical battle that will go right down to the wire. Brian Farrell will be a huge asset to Meath if he is fit. Monaghan's defensive record against Meath is poor and with Farrell back I think Meath will cause all sorts of problems for the farney backs. Monaghan were pretty disappointing against Dublin, yet again collapsing once we got the spare man. It's a strange thing to say but having an extra man is Monaghan's biggest Achilles heel at present. If Caffrey had kept Ryan in midfield there's no way we would have salvaged a draw. As always midfield is key. We were hammered in that department against the Dubs and a vast improvement is required from Lennon and Clerkin. The former is not 100% fit but the latter can have no excuse for another poor performance on Sunday. Meath must win to maintain their promotion ambitions and with Colm Coyle they have a manager who has expert knowledge on a lot of the Monaghan players. However Monaghan have home advantage and they've impressed in Clones so far. Monaghan to win but wouldn't be at all surprised by another draw.

GAA Discussion / Re: Monaghan V Armagh

Can see Monaghan edging out this one. We've taken a hell of a lot of beatings from Armagh over the years and Banty will have his troops well and truly up for this match. There is a togetherness about Monaghan that I haven't seen in a long while. I was speaking to one of the half backs at the weekend and he was saying that the team can't wait to play Armagh. Monaghan to win by two.

"The C.C.C.C. of the GAA stated on Tuesday evening that they had taken the decision that Cork should forfeit the Allianz National League points to the opponents that they failed to meet in the first two rounds of the Leagues, Meath and Dublin in football and Kilkenny and Waterford in hurling.

Cork have also been fined €400 per game unfulfilled.  The remaining games in the National Leagues will take place as scheduled."

Don't agree with this decision. I think it is unfair on the other teams in Div. 2. I think Cork should have been thrown out of the league. Simple as that. They weren't able to sort out a simple dispute months ago and they should be punished for the ridiculous mess they caused. It's not Dublin or Meath's fault that they were awarded the points but it is unfair in the extreme. Another terrible decision by the GAA. The rules are clear as day but they have blatantly not followed them to protect one of the bigger Counties. Total disgrace imo.

Initially I thought this would be comfortable enough for Monaghan but the injury doubts over Lennon and the broken arm Colm Flanagan received at training last Sunday make this game more open than people think. If Lennon plays then Monaghan should win. If he doesn't then the draw would be a nice value bet for this one. Really looking forward to a nice local derby under lights  ;D
Where do these rubbish injury stories come from?  Both Lennon and Flanagan are in the team named for Sunday's game. Broken arms do not heal that quickly!  Seriously, where does this (mis)information come from?
Same team named as that lined out against Roscommon - D Freeman on bench, at least on the teamsheet.

At full strength, should be able to take this one now.
There was talk on another forum that Flanagan broke his arm at training. Obviously it's not true, haven't a clue where it came from. Can't see anything but a Monaghan win with this team.

The weather? Sure it's nearly 2 weeks away - have you got super long-term forecast?
Actually yeah I do http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/14days.asp?zipcode=Monaghan  ;D ;D ;D

Plenty of excitement in the County alright with pretty much everyone of the opinion that we have nothing to lose and that we have a good chance if we get the rub of the green. I'd say Monaghan will bring at least the 15,000. We get a decent following anyway but when you add the fact that its our first final in 19 years we should have a good crowd shouting the lads on. Pity about the weather, don't think either team would appreciate a drenched Tiernach's park.

Absoultely delighted to finally have the chance to watch an Ulster Final in Clones involving our own team. I know the game against Derry was dire but it didn't stop me from jumping around the office like a lunatic once the ref blew the final whistle! Its brilliant to feel a buzz around the County, its not too often we have it and although we will be massive underdogs, this team will have done the County proud no matter what the result. Fair play to Banty and his backround team. He has firmly believed in his players from day one and despite many critics and doubters he has proved them all wrong. All the best on July 15th lads.

Was thinking the same thing. He might not start but would definitely be a viable option for Banty if things go belly up at the back.
