GAA Discussion / Re: Limerick V Cork
July 23, 2010, 02:42:55 PM
That is a very strong Cork team; for once that is the team I would pick as well (Murphy & Kerrigan aside as they are returning from injury).
Cork always had a tendency to pick strange teams (i.e. Noel O'Leary & Donnacha O'Connor) but Counihan may be putting out his strongest team tomorrow.
When Murphy comes in for Walsh they will be the team to beat in this year's championship, unless you are from Kerry in which case they will be the team to beat again....
I always had time for Gould but they threw him in too soon and he suffered for it, I would rate him far higher than Donnacha O'Connor but at 24 he needs to be consistently making the starting 15 now.
Miskella, Shields and Kissane is a serious half back line while O'Neill, Sheehan & Goulding represents the best full forward line left in the championship and Kerrigan has still to come in as well.
Their full back line can be got at though and while their forward are all good; they have no marquee forward like Gooch, O'Neill or Brogan that will win a match on their own.
Cork will win by 7/8 points as they will not gift Limerick a lifeline like we did in the Munster final. Then I will be praying to whatever god will listen that we don't draw them in the QF minus Galvin and Tomas...

Bit of a joke really alright Mike. Can't figure out why the CCCC under the chairmanship of a Tyrone guy who report to the Cork guy would only suspend Kerry players. If they take no action against the O'Halpin then  the whole system is a bigger joke than I thought it was!

Limerick may have won the coin toss but the word filtering through is that Frank Murphy is planning an appeal over the venue for next weekends game.
Apparently the coin used in the toss was a 1 euro coin, where Rule 247.9.7 sub section 23 (a) clearly states that a 2 euro coin must be used when the draw is made on Monday the 19th of any month.

Not to trivialise the situation but here are the texts I got:
--------------------------------------------
Breaking news: The CCCC Held an emergency meeting straight after the Leinster final and after reviewing the Meath goal, they have decided to suspend Colm Cooper for a month.
--------------------------------------------
Sepp blatter was just interviewed after world cup final. He said "i cannot believe, ha ha, that louth are looking for a replay, ha ha"

This is a difficult one to deal with really.
Louth were the better team and deserved to win and should have done so irrespective of the goal.
My heart goes out to the Louth team, the passionate and level headed management and their fans.
However I feel we are entering dangerous territory talking about replays - when and where would a replay be justified?
If the tables were reversed and Louth won in that fashion would a replay be asked for?
Should last years all-ireland be replayed as Darren bounced the ball twice for one score?
Does a replay only apply is an error occurs with the last score?
The hornets nest may be about to be opened here.
A lot of talk is about precedent where replays were awarded - no replay applied when:
Kerry goal that went wide first v Tipp in 1999;
Kerry goal disallowed v Kildare in semi final 1998;
Charlie Redmond staying on the pitch in 1995;
One of the twins getting two yellow cards v Dr Crokes in club final 2007.
If a replay is offered then every club side in the country will be looking for replays due to bad reffering!

Most (if not all Kerry) fans have no issue with the two bans.
On viewing it on telly both were out of line.
What has annoyed us is that the media are falling over themselves to have a go at us alone.
Christ how can Tomas be the only guy suspened after last weekend?
O'Hara, the galway corner back, Tommy Walsh, eddie Brennan, the tipp & wexford guys!!
Not to mention the Cavan guy who pushed the ref - good job he didn't touch his notebook or he would have got a 6 month ban.
Like refeering all this is looked for is consistency which was sadly lacking at the CCCC on their conference call this week.
In the face of this we can only assume that the CCCC have decided to only watch replays involving Kerry players.
We are now missing 6 players from last september, this should be game over this time.
Personnally I feel they will target Gooch and Donaghy for bans if by some miracle we win the next day.

Another sad anti-Kerry thread!
Anyone else suspended from last week or is it just Tomas.
I think all eyes (and Sky+ boxes) will be on the action this weekend.
As it stands we are taking this on the chin again but the fact Canty acted the maggott in both game against us and got his card resinded hurts.

Galvin was wrong to do what he did but it was no worse than Kavanagh choking the Gooch or Gould punching Darren or indeed Canty going for Galvin when he came on or Canty taking the Gooch out the previous sunday. The problem here is that Galvin did not deserve the red card in the league game, TV pictures clearly showed the hurler went for him. Kerry appealed but the ref report and not video evidence was used. Now he gets a double ban on TV evidence while the Cork sportsmen.... are free to play on.
Regardless of your views on Galvin, he has been singled out by both the CCC & the Sunday Game for special attention; 4 week and a munster final is an appropriate ban, 8 weeks is excessive especially after the unjust league ban - Galvin will have my full support in this appeal. The man does not deserve to miss 16 weeks of the footballing year for these incidents.

Yea all  down to this game really - a relegation playoff.

If Kerry win, we are safe. Monaghan relegated if Tyrone get anything in Omagh; otherwise Tyrone relegated as Monaghan beat them.

If Monaghan & Kerry draw; Tyrone relegated if they fail to get anything from Dublin; if Tyrone draw then mini-league between the three team and we would be safe as we have a superior scoring difference (+4). Not sure what Tyrone's is but Monaghan are -7.

If Monaghan win, we are down as Tyrone beat us.
Going down not ideal but wouldn't be the end of the world either.
Either way a good game for both teams to sign off on, a game with something on the line.

Galvin will be back and hopefully Tomas will make his seasonal bow as well.
Hopefully the u-21 will not be available but that is dependant on the Munster final on Wednesday night (v Tipp in Tralee).

Kerry away on Monday for a weeks warm weather training.

Tyrone deserved the win, we were way too negative at the end.
Reality was that it was there for us when we got the goal and we failed to close the deal.
But as Jack said after the Mayo game better to find this out now than in July August.

I can't shake the feeling that we are in terminal decline, While Galvin & Tomas will make a massive difference when they come back (and possibly Johnny Buckley / Barry John Keane & Barry John Walsh from the u-21's) this was a full strength Kerry side. We need Mike Mac back if we are to have any chance in the summer.

Can't see beyond Cork at this juncture, they are heads and shoulders above everyone else in this division and whats worse they know it!!!!

GAA Discussion / Re: All Stars being picked now
October 16, 2009, 09:21:37 PM
7 All-Stars is a great haul for a team that only put in two quality performance the whole year.
Delighted for Seamus Scanlon - the very first All Star for Currow.
Now if we can win the Kerry Intermediate final Sunday week that will make for one hell of a year!!!!!!!!

Two quibbles with the selection.
Mike Mac should have got one. He was outstanding against Antrim, Dublin, Meath and Cork - he turned Kerry's season.
Going to go against the grain here - I am not sure if Taghie deserved one.
Still there will always be debates after the selection.

I am happy for Galvin but I felt Tomas should have gotten footballer of the year.

A sweet, sweet win. Great to see Sam back on home soil again.
Donnacha Walsh and Sean O'sullivan brought the trophy into work today.
It is amazing the effect a piece of silver can have on people.
The langers as always are as gracious in defeat as they were in victory last June.
I have no doubt their time will come. Cork were the team of the year if not the team of the final.
Some year for Munster football only the Minor title escaped.
Munster the home of football!!

GAA Discussion / Re: Young Footballer of the year

I think it is that the player is u21 and played less than 4 championship games the previous season.
Thus Tommy Walsh is excluded from consideration.

Tomas for me. He consistently topped the stat categories each game (breaks won, touches, completed passes etc).
No Kerry player touched the ball as much as Tomas in the 09 championship.
He point scoring and ball carring are magestic as well.
I think Galvin will get it as papers like the rehabilation angle. Plus if the red mist decends in 2010 it will provide them with an even better story.

Breaking a habit of a lifetime here.
Can't believe I am writing this - come on da rebels!!
I hope and believe Cork can and will win.
Can't see Tyrone getting eneough ball off them.
I would expect whoever wins this will win it out.
Never thought I would see the dau when Cork have so many scoring options.
Hopefully for Cork's sake Mr. Kennevy will be watching from home.
