Martin Breheny and Colm Keys giving out about the split season and yet very little coverage of club games. Very few match reports club games yet 10 pages foreign league of Premier League shite. Why is Irish Independent GAA Coverage so shite?

There is a very simple solution to this problem - Do what i have done for the last 16 years - Don't buy the rag!

What do you expect, it's a newspaper for the Pat Kenny's on this world. Just enough information provided on a subject so that you can let on that you know what you're on about.

Same here. Never buy it. If I want GAA coverage I buy the Irish News.
The indo and times are rugger papers.

+1 To focused on the D4 brigade.

Used to buy the Indo on a Monday when I was at Uni in the late 90s as there was good coverage of the club / provincial championship.  Use to also enjoy reading Vincent Hogan match reports in years gone by especially Munster Hurling.

twohands!!!

Examiner's GAA coverage is miles ahead of the Independent and Times

Rossfan

Digital Examiner for me even though it's GAA coverage can be Munster orientated, but is still excellent on  National GAA affairs.
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

Yeah that's probably the biggest problem with their coverage, but is understandable given their Cork basis.

Tubberman

Never read the indo, and especially not the Sunday indo!
am subscribed to Irish Times, but yeah, GAA coverage isn't great at all, especially in comparison to the whole section of their app/site dedicated to the Lions tour  ::)

I don't substantively disagree, but is it realistic to expect club game reports in a national paper?

It would be much better reading than some clown giving out, cover a different random county each week maybe, but probably too much like work and research..

Rossfan

They could do a summary of results, what the situations are etc on a Tuesday.
An obvious one at the start is to outline the formats in the different Counties.
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

Glorified end of season junket / challenge matches.

Aaron Boone

They have to work on Talbot Street. Personal safety is paramount and thus expanded GAA coverage can wait.

Baling Twine

Breheny should have hung up his typewriter years ago. He's bitter about anything new that has happened in the GAA this millennium.
