The Olympics rights are a bit of a mess. Much as RTE will take the brunt of the blame, the Olympics sold all UK rights to BBC and US media company Discovery back in 2016 for the next 5 Olympics. BBC only have the rights to broadcast a max of 2 live sports at a time. To watch anything else, those in UK need a paid subscription to Discovery. RTE only have the rights for the 26 counties so the North gets blocked from using RTE player - unless a VPN is used. Given that the Olympic Federation of Ireland covers the whole island, and most athletes opt for Ireland, it's a poor reflection on all parties that RTE cannot broadcast all Irish athletes across Ireland. This was an issue during the last Olympics so you'd have thought the powers that be could have sorted this by now. As is, there's another 20 years to go of RTE blocking North.

On my TV, it's blocked on RTE channel 55. But if I go up channel 813 RTE, it's not blocked.
