Not sure if that Norway story is true. They have indicated that Israel shouldn't be playing I think... though an anti-Fascist social media account has posted a couple of times that Norway is not refusing to play Israel and that the story is "fake news" as they say...

I hope  the Norway thing   Is true ,  but in reality it's probably only  going to be  those in Israel's group that might  make a fuss (even that is unlikely).

It needs to be a European-wide  thing, and that won't  clearly happen. If Norway  do make a fuss of it , no doubt UEFA will  say "on yer bike then"

Then, instead of Israel becoming the pariah state,  it will be Norway (along with Ireland)

Same as that... I certainly hope it's true but I doubt it. Israel needs to be treated as pariahs by the international community and this bullshit smashed that condemning genocide and landgrab is 'anti-semitic".

The tide does seem to be turning in that direction. Even in the US, support for Israel is no longer a bipartisan issue. The left is quickly turning away from the pro-Israel position, particularly among younger people, since they seem to be better informed about the history of it and are getting their news from sources that are not under the thumb of the pro-Israel lobby.

If that can happen in the US then it can happen anywhere.

Brilliant albeit thoroughly depressing podcast this week from Joe Brolly & Dion Fanning calling out the 'anti-semetic' rhetoric Israel uses on anyone challenging its genocidal regime.

Quote from: theskull1 on December 19, 2024, 10:44:18 AMShouldn't our Catholic moral guardians be standing up more for humanity?

Its embarrassing is it not that a football association standing up to genocide in a meaningful way is the headline whilst western governments and faiths keep their heads down.

This is complete and utter bollocks. The Catholic Church through it's charities has done more than any other Irish organisation in Gaza for the last 20 years. Trocaire uses millions of its donation every year to help people in the middle east and has done consistently for the last 2 decades.

People seem to think talking shite on twitter or message boards counts as helping the Palestinians. I'd like to see how much these people contribute financially to helping out innocent Palestinians. This year they paid for 49 court cases to defend 1500 Palestinians who have been dispossessed by illegal Israeli settlement. They're also provided humanitarian assistance to 60,000 Palestinians despite how incredibly difficult the Israeli's make it for them.

Name an Irish organisation that has contributed as much as this to the Palestinians? The Catholic Church regularly comes in for kicking in the Irish media, some of it certainly justified, but in no way can they be criticised for the assistance they have provided in this case.

The Pope using the word 'genocide' in Gaza in his Christmas message would be huge statement.

The Irish Print media asking the right questions now!

About time, but a lot quicker than a lot of the so called "rules based" order still stony silent on this matter.

"The systematic dismantling of the health system in Gaza is a death sentence for tens of thousands of Palestinians in need of healthcare," WHO said in a statement late on Friday. "This horror must end and healthcare must be protected." The Palestinian health ministry said Kamal Adwan's operating and surgical departments, laboratory, maintenance, ambulance units and warehouses had "been completely burnt".

The WHO said it had verified 516 attacks on health facilities and medical transport in Gaza, adding that more than 90 per cent of the strip's medical facilities were either damaged or destroyed. The operation has reduced Jabalia, which before the war was the largest refugee camp in Gaza and home to more than 100,000 people, to rubble, and expanded to neighbouring Beit Lahia where the Kamal Adwan Hospital is located. Israel's offensive has killed more than 45,000 people, according to Palestinian health officials, and forced the vast majority of the strip's 2.3mn people from their homes.

The Palestinians are experiencing unprecedented suffering in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli military. Hamas's failed bloody bet, and the inability of its partners to come to the rescue, are a reminder, if one was needed, that the only course for Palestinian statehood is its internationalisation and a negotiated outcome. The coalition for a two-state solution organised by Saudi Arabia, other Arab states and European nations has emerged as the most likely vehicle for this. Palestinians would need to be convinced that it is more than a symbolic diplomatic dance but they must also demonstrate ownership of the process, something only a long-awaited reform of the Palestinian Authority would do.

The War Criminals' real end aim appears to be to "ethnically cleanse" Gaza and fill it with extremist "settlers" who will no doubt be Yanks.

The fourth area is the longest of all. It's a strip running along the entire border between Gaza and Israel that the Gaza Division is responsible for reshaping. Or in other words, it's a buffer zone at least a kilometer deep between the Israeli communities near the Gazan border and the first houses inside Gaza. The end is to keep the threat of antitank missiles further from Israelis' homes. The means is by destroying entire neighborhoods
