S Young and S Downey named to start. Not much experience on the bench but plenty of potential. Defence has been solid so far and forwards improving from first day out. Would be nice to get a convincing victory at home to build momentum.

I'd settle for a 1 point win ... Harte involved with Offaly will know the Derry players
After the result tonight, I think Offaly would have settled for this also.
Would love to know why so many changes are made to the published line ups, I can't see how it helps players.
They aren't 'published line-ups', that'll be one reason for sure

Little more than a training session. Thought there would have been more life in Offaly than what they showed tonight. Was good to get the bench run.

The line up was published on X and showed 3 changes by throw in. (When it was republished) If every team is submitting a team and then changing it just ask them to put up a list of 26 or not name the team until 1 or 2 hours before.
Anyway a good win is the most important thing from tonight.

Derry name a squad for a game then the team is named closer to the time I'm fairly sure the players know the craic and aren't thinking they're starting then getting dropped at the last minute.

Great to get the 2 points but hard to take too much from the game given how horrendously bad Offaly were. I know they're having troubles but that performance wouldn't win a game in Division 3!

Jack Doherty played rightly when the game was in the mix with his direct running, hopefully he nail down a run of games in his best position.

EARLY goals from Niall Loughlin and Matthew Downey set Derry on their way to a comfortable win over Offaly on Saturday night.

It's the first time the Oakleafers won three successive in two seasons and it keeps their promotion hopes alive.

CiarĂ¡n Meenagh's side welcome Cork on Sunday, their third game in a 15-day period.

Derry started without the suspended Conor Glass after the Derry skipper's appeal against his red card in Kildare was unsuccessful.

Derry selector Chrissy McKaigue said a facial injury sustained in Newbridge kept goalkeeper Shea McGuckin out of the game.

Lachlan Murray was withdrawn from the 26 but is expected to be available for selection next weekend.

McKaigue also confirmed Newbridge skipper Conor McAteer is no longer part of the panel.

Derry were rampant from the moment Jack Doherty created early chances and kicked them into an early lead, one they never lost.

The only concern was long kick outs, Offaly seemed to dominate them in spells. There was a period were they won about 6 in a row. The second half from Offaly was also the worst display of shooting I've seen, not that it would have mattered.

Outside of the main men who all had good games it was the best I've seen Matthew Downey play in a Derry shirt. Jack Doherty also looked good and I think he'll get better with game time.

What's the story with Lachlan Murray, is he injured again, wasn't even in squad. I'm hoping rested for Cork.

Funny I thought our kick outs were a small issue, I expected Ryans to be stronger that Shea but maybe hampered slightly by lack of physically big men around the middle.

Mid 2nd half we had Glass, Mc Kinless, Rogers, Clucky, CD all on the sideline so that would make it hard for any keeper. Its great they all could get rest at this stage in the league.

Dan Higgins and Eoin Mc Evoy done a fairly heavy running session before it started so I assume they aren't far away. Sunday shaping up to be a cracker, big chance to put Meath game totally to bed and show they're the best team in the Div 2. Which they are.

Who else was in that group? I'd Glass, Higgins and McEvoy then I wasn't too sure on the other 2,thought it was E Young and maybe McDermott or Sargent.

He struggled to find medium (Short) kickouts that were on. He had tunnel vision. This was against very poor opposition aswell. What would he be like if hes in goals against the big teams is the question. Cork will test it next weekend.

I said during the game that our kickouts were very disappointing. It was the one weak spot we had, and I'm sure that'll not go unnoticed by other teams. It is hard to be critical when we dominated the scoreboard but it would be a concern against better opposition. Hopefully, that is something they'll analyse this week. It is a big game this weekend, and we want to keep the steady momentum we're slowly building.

Ryan O

It was his first game back for few week and generally his kickouts are first class so I wouldn't panic, take away the main target around the middle in Glass and slightly limits his options.

On a plus note and I know Offaly were terrible but Ruairi Forbes is turning into a top class player. The lads still only young but has slotted into Full back. Big, strong and a good tackler.
When see Mc Evoy and Mc Closkey to come back and Shea Downey realistically first to give way management have a big decision to make on the next one. Well documented that I wouldn't be totally gone on Baker but he is a mainstay at this stage. Touch wood doesn't seem to get injured, gives everything and is always there. He would be a hard man to drop.

jb77

Great problem to have but it does mean one quality player has to sit on the bench. If McKinless and the knee wrap indicates anything McEvoy could slot in there for a game or two.

Come championship something has to give and the demise of Padraig McGrogan was exaggerated a bit, I didn't think he was the fall man before and I really don't now.

Louth v Derry game has been moved from Sunday 15th March at 1.30pm to Saturday 14th March at 3pm. Still in Ardee, by agreement from both Counties.
