Quote from: Rawhide on June 08, 2026, 01:01:46 PMman, Loup, Glenullin & Dungiven have no county players, full compliment. They would need to winning games.
Whats the reason for Limavady, Kilrea, Faughanvale, Steelstown, Swatragh? Do you think bringing back that one County man and  changes everything?

Do you reckon if Scullion and Bradley had of been with Screen all year they would be away up the table?

You might want to look at the league table. Steelstown are in the top half, ahead of the previously mentioned Dungiven at the moment, with a county player to return.

They've still only won 4 out of 9 the same as Swatragh, Lavey and Bellaghy.
You seen Steelstown mentioned and climbed on your wee horse. Do you think with Baker back they would be up the top with Loup? Thats the discussion.

The statement was that some clubs are flying because they have no county men, I think Loup in particular are going well because they are fit, well organised and playing good football.

Loup didn't go from getting tankings all last year, scoreless for 50 minutes against the Bridge just to top the league this year because Caolan Devlin is back lol

DERRY forward Lachlan Murray remains a doubt for Saturday's All-Ireland SFC clash with Meath at Find Insurance Celtic Park.

The Desertmartin man pulled up after kicking his second point in Derry's recent defeat to Armagh.

Speaking after the game, manager Ciarán Meenagh said it was a dead leg that forced him out of the action.

His availability would be a massive boost to the Oakleafers' chances this weekend.

Cavan's injury list grows ahead of Dublin visit

With his direct running, he has amassed 4-24 in league and championship this season. He has 62 senior appearances to his name.

Murray was a late withdrawal ahead of Derry's league defeat to Meath back in January and also sat out the victory over Offaly.

"He got a bad dead leg in the first half (against Armagh) so we just have to see," Martin Boyle told Gaelic Life.

Boyle is part of Meenagh's management and was Murray's manager at minor level when Derry won the 2020 All-Ireland title.

"With dead legs, you just never know, so it's very much a case of wait and see."

Patrick McGurk and Matthew Downey – both part of that same All-Ireland-winning minor team under Boyle – were due back in training over the weekend.

The other recent boost has been goalkeeper Odhrán Lynch's return to club action, but he didn't feature in Magherafelt's defeat to Loup on Sunday.

Looking ahead to the Meath game, Boyle knows what to expect but is happy the Oakleafers have home advantage.

"It's a brilliant challenge, it's a brilliant game and we're delighted to be at home in Celtic Park," he said.

"Meath are obviously a top-level team and had promotion to Division One.

"They'll be disappointed obviously with their Leinster campaign and obviously losing to Cork (in the All-Ireland series).

"They're a serious team – they've a lot of scoring threats and we've a bit of experience of them from their first game of the league this year.

"There's a lot to look forward to and there's a lot to be positive about. Hopefully that'll reinvigorate our boys to raise the pitch of their performance and no doubt it will."

Quote from: THEALBION1878 on June 08, 2026, 10:12:21 AMhavent got to many league games this year, who are the teams going well at this stage?
Same teams doing the business but the most improved at this stage and definitely on really upward trend is Loup.

Maxi Curran has made some difference there, Glenullin having good year having just came up.

Newbridge have been very impressive in 2 times I seen them, Dungiven doing ok but wish they would kick the ball more, like a team playing with handbrake on.

Can't see Loup/Glenullin counting for much come later in the year. Going hard at the league, when most teams are going through the motions, which is fair enough, but league positions aren't a true reflection of where teams are at.

I found it odd they were listed, yes. As mentioned they are in the top half of the league. You didn't mention Bellaghy or Lavey. Strange enough analogy there too, I'm not a Steelstown man.

Teams with only 1 or no county players.

4 days out from Derry seniors' biggest game of the season.

Apart from improving their shot-to-score ratio and their intensity, what does this group think they need to do to beat Meath?

They need to take the shackles off and be a bit more adventurous. The slow build up is not working.

Scoring efficiency, forward movement and intensity in all facets of the game, I still believe 1-2 long established starters will be coming off the bench this week

No chance they can start that Girl from the Glen who knows were the posts are!

GTP

Play Glass at midfield, find a centre half forward who can move the ball and somehow increase our two-point threat. And in defence cut Meath's 2-point return.
The referee could be important as frees just outside the arc and in the defensive half can become very influential. Someone who blows everything will give Meath an advantage.
I won't be in attendance but hopefully plenty of others will get out and give their support. And if we win, we can start calling it Fortress Find Insurance Celtic Park for a little while at least.

Sean Hurson is the ref on Saturday.
Ruairi Kinsella is out for Meath - ACL in training.

Maghera was Black

Hoping we get as good a crowd as we did against Galway last year the atmosphere was top class. The team need the supporters behind them more than ever, i still believe there is a big performance in this team. It's now time to perform

screenexile

I think we need bigger performances from our big players and attack with pace.

McCluskey/McGrogan/McKinless/McEvoy need to attack more they haven't been a threat at all in the Championship.

Rogers needs to get back on the ball more. He's lost a yard of pace but he can still attack with purpose and drag a couple of lads towards him. Glass needs to do the same he gets the ball and his first instinct is to go backwards!

Ethan and Shane need to keep it simple to get their confidence back keep driving at lads and try to win the free at least to get them into the game. From there they can try to push on. Shane's workrate was always huge but with his dip in confidence I think he's lost that. If he gets the work rate back the scores should come.

All isn't lost I still see this as a 50/50 game but if Murray is missing I think we'll struggle bigtime.

Kinsella is a huge loss for Meath.
Hurson doesn't really give us much.
