First 4, yes, interesting one re the marks, ball obviously has to go dead so would need to be a serious hoof of a kickout mark.

I was wondering something related to this. Following the Monaghan Derry incident RTE were quoting what they called Rule 10. Now I've no idea where that came from but it suggested that not only could all of those above be taken after the hooter of awarded before the hooter but it read as if they could be taken from either the hand or the ground. Which obviously wouldn't be allowed in some instances before the Hooter.

I can't find an equivalent rule in the official guide so I'd be interested to know where exactly this rule 10 came from and whether bodies other than Rte think it's in force.

These would only apply to intercounty grounds which do the hooter lol and intercounty games, so I'm out

Presumably wouldn't apply to a free out on your own 20 e.g.??
Yer not going to score direct from it.
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

I think you have to be given the chance. Or else where do you draw the line. What's the current Kick Fada record?

I'm sure a player will be allowed kick it if he really wants to lol

One rule would solve  all of this. Ball must go over the opposition end line  to end the game.

It would cut out  all those  cynical fouls with seconds  to go as well.

The Boy Wonder

We've had a great 2 days of football and I'm wondering how much of it can be attributed to the new rules and how much to the new format.

I think the new format is way better that the previous group system and was a major factor in the thrilling games served up this weekend.

There is no denying that the new rules have opened up the game but I would still have reservations about the 2-pointer in particular. Too much back and forth outside the arc - often at walking pace. And we hear little debate nowadays about fair and foul tackling because there is much less actual tacking in the game. I also prefer the old system of injury time at referee's discretion rather than the hooter.

Nonetheless a very enjoyable weekend's football in the Sam Maguire Cup.

The amount of complaining about what the ref adds on for injury time and what's actually played was a thing.. the hooter at least takes that away. Are we looking that back?

The levelling off of standards is the real game changer. The rules have definitely helped the game, but if teams aren't at similar levels they will lend themselves to some very one-sided games where teams can no longer attempt to pack the defence and keep the score down.

I certainly am - give the ref that bit of discretion.

I think it takes away the messing about last 2 mins to kill time.

I like the hooter but the current rule this year results in the last 3 mins of each half being lost as teams keep the ball to have the last shot. Preferred last year rule when the ball had to go dead after the hooter rather than the game being automatically over. Added far more excitement and allowed another chance for teams

Plus this year there is no way you can get the ref watch, clock in the ground and tv clock to match exactly which just adds to the confusion.

Tell that to Aidan Forker!
