For over 20 years now Tyrone have had a policy where suggessful underage county managers graduate to the senior role.

Deviating from that policy to employ at outside man, who has no more love for Tyrone than he would for Derry, Kerry or anyone else, at a ransom of money doesn't seem likely and I don't think that it would sit right with any true Gael to disrepect our own people that way, what message would that be from the county board to future underage management teams.

Think the first message needs sent is if your lucky enough to be involved with Tyrone underage then your not guaranteed the senior job. Not that it needs saying other than to somebody that's thick. Will he need to be nominated by a club.
County board will know full well what he's like but if a few others aren't interested then it could be his

His record underage is questionable at best. Two All Irelands yes but had incredible talent in those teams. Could be argued should be three in a row. The defence of the title in 2023 will raise a lot of questions and is eerily similar to Tyrone seniors since the All Ireland win.
If its a choice between O'Rourke and Devlin, we should be looking at O'Rourke. Can't be overlooking a manager of that calibre.

Mickey brought plenty of financial strain through the development of facilities, team related expenses such as bonding, subsistence, medical and testing but he was 100% not getting any payment directly for coaching Tyrone senior team at the cost of the county. Whether he is getting looked after from someone outside the county board structures, as many say, we can't know for sure. An outside appointment will command a huge fee as an employee plus all of the expenses required to already run the team. Whenever we have internal people wanting the job having earned their stripes at the underage system, just like all our managers for the last 20 years, then I think there is no need to look elsewhere, there lies the difference with the hurling appointment.

If the decision makers do decide to go down the route of rejecting the appointment of PD and his team in favour of bringing in an employee then in my opinion, many will disagree I'm sure,  it is mud in the face of every volunteer within the game and totally against the ethos of the GAA.

Every defeat and poor performance over the years was ridiculed by every supporter, part and parcel, imagine the uproar if a paid professional can't get it right year 1 you only have to look at Derry this year- won a national league but when it fell to pieces in the championship the P45 written, an appointment that left a sour taste in the county. We do the same having scorned our own in the process then shame on us.
