So did JB send this email in official capacity. GAA email address, with other senior gaa on croke park safeguarding committee cc in. Did he discuss with safeguarding on sending this email? Or he use his own personal email address? Decide am President, I can email [or phone a few other clubs previous)directly, disclose possible safeguarding info, on why certain persons cannot be hired? Am sure there some sort of proper official process in place when a serious matter arises within a county of club. Not abit of freewheeling

Gallagher must be an excellent coach therefore they sought his expertise, note, he isn't barred from coaching or managing having been through the GAA safeguarding processes

Naas aren't the issue

It was Jarlath who brought the media strom to the door of a mother father and 3 children, highly irresponsible

Whoever leaked the private email did.

Did Naas not send it to Gallagher as they shud have and he put it in public domain? Which he's also entitled to do..
I'm not sure

That leaves Corduff & Naas (before Burns' intervention).

He's a "career coach", we don't know who would/wouldn't have him back

I keep hearing the issues were well known, it makes a mockery of Jim McGuinness claims of a duty of care to his players

Or maybe RG presented no risk to Donegal players, which begs the question, what risk did he pose to Naas players?

I'm sure there's boys with a few issues looking after LGFA teams, but they're tolerated in the pursuit of wins

The GAA might want to create something like role based charters/procedures and have everyone sign up depending on what role(s) they occupy, Presidental witch hunts can't be allowed to continue
The issue clubs/counties may have with him isn't  that he presents a risk to their players.
Since his wife's Facebook post, he was the talk of the country and became a hate figure to many (rightly or wrongly). Inviting him into a club brings the risk that players, supporters, sponsors and whoever else will be seriously unhappy and it could prove a very divisive and difficult situation. Completely unnecessarily so, as has been said by another poster, there are plenty of other good coaches out there. Again, it would be more hassle than it is worth.
That's not to say that Jarlath Burns has got this right. I don't think that Gallagher should be banned from taking teams and I don't believe the upper echelons of the association should be trying to influence teams away from him. Still, I think teams would be mad to touch him.

Exactly.  Never mind the circus it would bring, what about the major risk of losing half your club over this.  There are other good coaches out there.

But does that make it the correct call? Herd mentality. Look, all of it could be true, some of it or none of it, but don't pick and choose, as there will be plenty of emails or calls to plenty of clubs

As much as I like jarlath, fellow Armagh man and what not, I think this was wrong of him. Does he make a call now to a club in Armagh if they field a certain player??

It doesn't matter. Given the allegations and how it's played out in public. It was just a bad decision by the club. A distraction and high risk of protest internally, let alone from sponsors. Was never going to have a positive outcome regardless of how you personally think RG should be treated.

Seems to be keeping the distinction between player and coach clear so I'd say he won't get involved there.

Wouldn't be wise of him to get involved in that one but who knows.

So no risk just optics

Morality police it is then

Duine Inteacht Eile

But there is risk.
Risk that you lose members, funders, community support. Everything that your club is built upon. And for what? A mercenary coach that you'll be replacing before long anyway.

imtommygunn

It's like they talk about in business. The damage is "reputational" and this has knock on effects like you say. I don't know why a club would take that risk tbh.

Milltown Row2

Irrespective of mercenary coach's I think the real thing is should the president get involved, and if he does, is it an agreed view from Croke or has he just decided he's the boss I'll do what I what?

And will they follow that up with what I'd say would be countless convictions for various different things throughout the clubs and counties?
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

In this particular case, it's a no from me.

I hold 2 views.
1. A club or county would be mad to appoint Rory Gallagher.
2. That decision should be left to the club/county without interference from any GAA official beyond it.
