Suarez handball vs Henry handball

Which would you choose?
The key to success is to be consistently competitive -- if you bang on the door often it will open

Suarez was not cheating, he took one for the team.
Pity he will be out, Forlan will be forlorn. The other lad with the long hair is not in the same class, reminded me of Samaras in looks and game. Some penalty though.

Hoof Hearted

would cheating not be a bit harsh. surely it was instinct, sticking the hand up.

Diego Forlan player of the tournament so far?
easily ozil, no?  Villa and Messi the only other contenders so far?

Sneijder, Schweinsteiger contenders as well?
yeah, though I don't think sneijder has been as good as he should have been, I watched some serie a matches this year where he was outstanding, but he hasn't really orchestrated this dutch side in the same way yet.  If they make the final, he'll be in the shortlist, with possibly robben if he has a good semi.

From the Bunker

"Any player picking up a red card is expelled from the pitch and automatically banned for his country's next match, whether via a straight red or second yellow. After a straight red card, FIFA will conduct a hearing and may extend this ban beyond one match. If the ban extends beyond the end of the World Cup finals (i.e. if a player is sent off in the match in which his team was eliminated), it must be served in the team's next competitive international match(es)."

A fella from Leicester tried and failed something similar this year in the playoffs semi final against Cardiff and a few experts on here reckoned he should never be allowed to play football again........
surely mensah's penalty was little different, at least the last pen taker waited for the keeper to dive first.

Very harsh on Ghana, maybe a penalty try type award would be more equitable?

Capt Pat

That was an amazing and tragic ending from Ghana.
Was it cheating?
Yes.
Soccer cheating????
THere is a lot of cheating in soccer which is considered acceptable. What Suarez did is considered acceptable. What Henry did is not considered acceptable soccer cheating.

They shouldn't have made him take the first penalty in the shoot out after missing the first one. He could have easily missed again. The final penalty was perfectly fine, the Ghanaian goalie was diving too soon. Kingson had a great tournament, even allowing for the bad mistake tonights from Forlans free kick he might still be keeper of the tournament.

Uruguay might have their 2 central defenders back for the semi final to make up for the 2 players Suarez and Facile that they lost. Suarez will be a big loss but they will move Forlan up front. The Dutch will be missing a couple of players corner back Van Der Meow and midfielder De Jong. Uruguay will play for penalties again.

What Suarez did is considered acceptable because he was always going to be caught, imo, what henry did was equally as acceptable.  I consider diving unacceptable, but in reality, it's no different.  If the sanctions for all types of cheating were the same, straight red card, then it would level the playing field, if you dive and are caught, you go, just the same as suarez

What Suarez did tonight I think nearly any man in that position would do.

What Henry  most wouldn't have the gall and arrogance to even try it. A bit like the penalty he tried to pass to Pires only instead of just pure arrogance - arrogance and cheating all in one.

May seem like double standards it's just the Henry one hurts more and in my book they aren't the same...

Cheating has no standard!

Just wondering, how would we receive a player back home (here in Ireland) if he did what Suarez did to reach a semi final. Would he be cheered as a guest onto the Late Late Show, with bear hugs and "Fair dues ya whore ya for doing that".

I think he definitely would! Wonder how he would have been recieved if Gyan scored the penalty, I guess we'll never know...

I remember watching this clip and wondering why Christian Vieri didn't do the same thing as Suarez because it meant Italy went out of the tournament.
