You can fool some of the people some of the time etc., this is just another of those headline grabbing announcements, which eventually fail to produce the promised numbers or quality of jobs, and will be forgotten about in a years time, after more serious wastage of public monies by Invest N.I. In the meantime it will probably be employed to off-set the growing dissillusionment with the Stormont Circus, and dig the local politicos out of the latest hole they have dug for themselves
Well Pangurban I think all of what you said goes without saying! We all know the score. Invest NI are clowns who are good for nothing except wasting public money, that's a given. That this was won as a bribe to grease the wheels of another carve up, a given. That the shinners and dupers will be back cap in hand to their masters for another slice of the pie, a given. That they're all f**king useless, a given.

Having said that it is 400 jobs.

The west has suffered more under the executive than under direct rule.

Rubbish.

Erne hospital, Derry-Dungiven road, Derry-Buncrana road, Enniskillen bypass, Dungannon to Ballygawley road, Aughnacloy-Derry road, Omagh-Dromore-Irvinstown-Enniskillen road, Magherafelt Bypass, Fire and Police training college in Cookstown...

Aye, times are tough out west.

The Erne Hospital is a PPP scheme as the goverment werent able/where unwilling to completly fund it. The Derry Buncrana Road, do you mean the roundabout and the small bit of road realignment that was mostly funded by a group of developers? The Enniskillen bypass, wont ever happen which i agree with as it wouldnt be value for money. The Dungannon to Ballygawley road is finally a reality 30 years after it should have happened. The Aughnacloy to Derry road if mostly funded by the south and the eu. The Omagh- Enniskillen road isnt happening, it was promised as part of the deal that has left the biggest county in the province without a proper hospital but apart from realignment at Shaneragh it has been mothballed. The Magherafelt bypass has been shelfed. The Derry to Dungiven road has much improved but the promised road from dungiven to the M22 is no nearer to starting 5 years on from when it was announced.

Pangurban

Its not 400 jobs, its a promise to create 400 jobs by the end of a three year span assuming all goes according to plan. We have seen the colour of the public investment monies, we have yet to see the colour of NYSCs. Sure we have seen it all before, and listened to the empty platitudes too often, so dont go counting any Chickens just yet

NYSE already spent $200m dollars on wombat, mostly based in belfast, and have increased the numbers there since purchase
it already has 150 odd employees in beflast.

Out of interest - is there a referral scheme in NYSE?

Good news this.

You can't expect a contract like this to land in Tyrone or Fermanagh - apart from infrastructure, it needs 400 appropriately skilled workers. There just aren't those numbers in those areas.

As for the public sector jobs, it's a great idea in principle, but if you decentralise a department from Belfast to Tyrone or Derry, you'll have to pay the current employees' travel for the next X years - on top of all the other associated costs. It would cost a fortune.

Sure the pro East on here have said that it would only take 1hr 30 minutes to get from Derry to Belfast. Guess what. It's only 1hr 30 minutes to get from Belfast to Derry too if you take that theory. So build it in Derry, and any skill shortage can be backfilled by commuters from Belfast.

NYSE bosses flying over will not want to fly from NYC to Derry via a Ryanair London flight

Theres 150 people already working in belfast, why would anyone try to force nyse to relocate to Derry?
Belfast is the major city - get over it.

I am guessing that the bosses of the NYSE will hardly be surfing budget websites for bargains. I'd suspect they'll have their own private jets and what have you.

Are you kidding?

so just to put this in perspective. NYSE is investing just over $600m, guaranteed minimum over the next 4 years with a possibility of that becoming just over $1.1Bn but you are concerned that it wont work out., so maybe we should say this is a bad thing?

are you tKing the piss, please- do me a favour and think about this for a bit, and then when you're ready- tell me why this is a bad thing...

Or say you were interested, tell me why we spent over $20m explaining to our investors why this was probably the best value for money on God"s green earth...

I'm here...

Heganboy if what you say is true, then there may be cause for celebration, but having seen so many similar announcements which in the end came to naught or much less than expected, i wont be putting the Champagne on Ice just yet. We will have to wait a couple of years before you or i can say with certainty if this one is any different. Meanwhile given the timing and choreography of this announcement, i will maintain a healthy sceptizism, while accepting your expressions of good faith. Hope you are right and i am wrong

You'll find that only the top handful of individuals at NYSE use Private Jets.  The management guys that would like visit a software centre in Belfast will not be flying via private jet.  Not the main reason for locating in Belfast (it is the sensible option as it is the largest City in NI) but another supporting argument
