Great news for the East again.

Tyrone and Derry shunned once more. Nothing changes.

Indeed. All the job that were supposed to decentralised by Stormont isn't happening now either. Sammy Wilson did a U turn.
Such a bit of whinging. I'd say 90% of NI is within 1.5 hours of Belfast but still people want jobs on their doorstep. Why would the NICS spend an absolute fortune of tax-payers money decentralising departments when there is nothing to be gained. If people want a job enough, they'll travel for it. A couple of hours each way is nothing to people in most other countries.

We don't have decent roads. Why the hell should the East have everything? FFS, Tyrone don't even have a hospital anymore!
Cos Belfast is there with it's fancy road, rail and air infrastructure (such as it is). And the west smells.

1) Better roads than the west
2) You have rail
3) Derry City Airport and.......?

You sound like someone from Mayo!

Take that back!!!

What's that your saying the "Whest is awake"
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

At the end of the day NYSE was only ever going to come into belfast, so no point in complaining about belfast getting it handed to the,.

Well done to those who brought this in.

The west has suffered more under the executive than under direct rule.

Rubbish.

Erne hospital, Derry-Dungiven road, Derry-Buncrana road, Enniskillen bypass, Dungannon to Ballygawley road, Aughnacloy-Derry road, Omagh-Dromore-Irvinstown-Enniskillen road, Magherafelt Bypass, Fire and Police training college in Cookstown...

Aye, times are tough out west.

Good news this.

You can't expect a contract like this to land in Tyrone or Fermanagh - apart from infrastructure, it needs 400 appropriately skilled workers. There just aren't those numbers in those areas.

As for the public sector jobs, it's a great idea in principle, but if you decentralise a department from Belfast to Tyrone or Derry, you'll have to pay the current employees' travel for the next X years - on top of all the other associated costs. It would cost a fortune.

Hereiam

But sure we all know why this investment is happening. Its the deal for policing and justice to happen.

Derry-Dungiven - Direct Rule minister
Aughnacloy - Paid for by Irish Gov
Fire and Police Training College, a sweetner deal with the south was it not?

It must be the most governed land mass on the planet.
Too many MLA's, Too many Councillors, yet its still run like a dictatorship, where the media get blasted by MLA's for asking too many questions about Invest NI, transfer test and expenses.

NI would be better off with a couple of direct rule ministers from both countries, who will make some decisions.

P.s Obviously these financial jobs should be in belfast, my point is on the Public Sector jobs not being relocated, which is off topic i know!

After years of chronic under investment, it's the least that could be done... the least.

Lets not forget, the Erne Hospital is at the expense of the Tyrone County Hospital. Which is basically a glorified Health Centre now.

QuoteP.s Obviously these financial jobs should be in belfast,

They arent really financial jobs per se, by and large it is software development etc.

Not exactly tough, but if you cannot see that the west has been disenfranchised for many years now in comparison to the east of the 6 counties then you must be blind and or ignorant.

Regarding the NYSE jobs I do agree Belfast was always going to be the viable option for these.

Well they definately couldn't go to Derry, as Magee could't produce enough graduates to sustain an investor of that size.

Magee - the other great success of the executive. Was due to rapid expansion under direct rule. Yet this planned has been scaled back and downsized to leave it much the same. Yet somehow spun the other way by Sinn Fein.

Arlene Foster loves people from Derry who raise questions about investment as much as she likes being questioned on the performance on Invest NI.

I didn't say the west wasn't discriminated against in the past, I was responding directly to the poster who said the west was better off during direct rule.

Ok, ok.  We are very sensitive over here just, we have been peed on for years and need serious investment as loads of our towns and villages have lost thousands of jobs as the textile industry looked east (Far East).

Governed, is that what is? It's nothing more than a carve up. The real decisions i.e. actual government still happens in London. I wouldn't trust any of the 108 to run a corner shop never mind a "country/statelet/occupied territory" etc.

Pangurban

You can fool some of the people some of the time etc., this is just another of those headline grabbing announcements, which eventually fail to produce the promised numbers or quality of jobs, and will be forgotten about in a years time, after more serious wastage of public monies by Invest N.I. In the meantime it will probably be employed to off-set the growing dissillusionment with the Stormont Circus, and dig the local politicos out of the latest hole they have dug for themselves

nifan

What makes you say that panguburn?
What do you know of the quality or number of jobs, and why do you think they wont achieve the numbers?
